The following air activity and aircraft were observed at Kamena airfield between 2 August and 21 September 1955s 25X1 2 August. At about 0700, eight single-engine aircraft, with yellow propeller hubs took off at intervals of about 1 minute for local flights which were performed at an altitude of about 350 meters. 25X1 6 September. Between 0900 and noon, no air activity was observed at Kamenz airfield. One aircraft was parked at the apron and the hangars were closed. At about 1045, two Yak-lis, which apparently belonged tc25X1 Bautzen airfield, made their attack exercises and then headed toward Bautzen. 15 September. Between 0620 and 0700, individual local flights were made by seven aircraft, which took off at irregular intervals of 3 to 5 minutes. Local flights were performed at an altitude of about 250 meters. 21 September. Between 0710 and 0720, one aircraft practiced aerobatics, including rolls to the right, loops to the rear, and turns, at an altitude of about 700 meters. Between 0720 and 083x, individual take-offs at irregular intervals, were practiced by aircraft with red propeller hubs.1 Aircraft with yellow propeller hubs were also observed. Between 0850 and 0855, one aircraft performed steep turns to the right and left, at an altitude of about 300 meters northeast of the towa of Kamenz. The aircraft stationed at Kamenz airfield seemed to be of a similar type as the Yak--1ls stationed at Bautzen airfield. The planes belonging to Kamenz were apparently slower and the noise produced by the engines seemed to be throttled-back. The level of training of pilots at Kamenz airfield was considerably lower than that of the pilots stationed at Bautzen airfield. 1 2. On 6 September, the former Panzer Kaserne at 'Lacher-Strasse in Kamenz was occupied by an estimated 1,000 to 1,200 VPL. At 0915, intensive traffic by pedestrians between Kamenz and the airfield was observed. On 21 September, the occupation strength was estimated to be about 2,500 men. Intensive traffic between Panzer Kaserne and the airfield was observed. About 20 captains, senor lieutenants, and lieutenants moved individually or in groups, from the northeastern entrance of the kaserne toward the airfield at 0700. These officers were not wearing flying suits, but their normal CLASSIFICATION SECRET Approved For Release 2008/01/10: CIA-RDP80-0081OA008400030006-3 Approved For Release 2008/01/10: CIA-RDP80-0081OA008400030006-3 uniforms.
