PROCESSING WEEKLY REPORT
FOR WEEK ENDING 9 DECEMBER 1981
of the Defense
Intelligence Agency were at the SAFE Center on Tuesday and
Wednesday, 1 - 2 December, for a introduction and
orientation on the Burroughs B6900 and its operating system.
Additional visits are planned as further hardware and
software development progresses.
There were many Ruffing Center problems this week. On
Wednesday, user software errors stopped OCROLDE3 and ISGOLDE
for 105 minutes and RECON for 73 minutes. Errors from a
Telex paging pack halted all of OCR for 25 minutes
Wednesday. Thursday, OCR was stopped for 65 minutes due to
hardware problems with the Amdahl 470/V8 computer. Friday,
OCR lost 159 minutes due to an operations error,an IBM disk
controller failure, and a failure in the 415 Hz
uninterruptible power supply. JES and Batch each lost about
2-1/2 hours, Friday, due to the controller and power
problems that day. Numerous other outages occurred.
Problems with the IBM NSA/B controllers caused intermittent
interruptions to the VM and Batch systems during the week.
The Special Center also had a substandard week, although
there were a small average number of lost time incidents.
DDOVMP lost over two hours, Thursday, due to an apparent
hardware failure in an IBM 370/158 computer. On Saturday,
TPSTAR lost nearly four hours due to IBM tape drive and
Telex disk drive hardware problems. On Monday, TPSTAR lost
nearly three hours more due to Telex drive roblems, and
TPNIPS lost 60 minutes for the same reason. II
The IBM 3081 was successfully IPL'ed with MVS/SP on 7
December. Production use of the machine is anticipated by
mid-January.
MPS - Availability guidelines for the system have been
established and coordinated with Processing, CDS, and DATEX.
