Nov 195 A complete reorganization of the Soviet Foreign Ministry is now going on m dex the direction of AA Gromyko. The Ministry's own intelligence department is being re- established in full working capacity under VA Zorin. While Beria was head of the secret police this department existed, but almost illegally and was w;Tthout, in- fluence. Political and economic intelligence is being completely transferred to the intelligence department of this Ministry, which will work as it did before World. War II, under Li.tvinov. Diplomats, aseigied to the intelligence department, will soon be sent to serve in the various, Soviet embassies and legations, but they will not be subordinated to the ministers." The heed of the newly re-established intelligence department of the F O ei ;n Ministry is KN Tiapkin, who formerly served in the 2nd (Western Europe) Section of the Ministry. He has been replaced there by VV Slavin. Tiapkin will be assisted by MI Sladkoveki, now deputy head of the Far East Department of the Ministry, Alexander Snegov has been sent to Paris as a member of the intelli- gence department of the Ministry and will make that place his permanent resilience, 25X1 25X1 bISTRIBUTION STATE ARMY NAVT AIR FBt This report is for the use within the USA of the Intelligence components of the Departments or Agencies indicated above.
