Approved For Release 2004/03/15 : CIA-RDP65B00383R000400070031-9 STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE CUBAN SITUATION Representative Cornelius E. Gallagher, February 6. 1963, UPI Rep. Cornelius E. Gallagher, D-N. J., in an Administration-backed statement, denounced today what he called "The numbers game being played by a few irresponsible Individuals." Gallagher, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a friend of the President, said his statement would be the basis for a speech he anned to deliver in the House tomorrow. "This business of everyone running around with a do-it-yourself CIA kit might be all right, '# he said. "But such pseudo super-spies certainly should not take precedence over the hard intelligence of professional experts. Gallagher, who claimed his statement represented the views of the Administration, said: "Any member of Congress possessing such intelligence has not only a duty but a very grave obligation to present such evidence instead of keeping it under a paper cloak and pointless dagger. "The President will take every necessary step to protect this country and its neighbors from any offensive threat to the security from Cuba. " Gallagher said. "The President will not be pr,voked into hasty or ill-considered action, nor do I believe it is the desire of responsible members of Congress to so provoke the Administration. " February 7, 1963 Rep. Samuel S. Stratton, D-N. Y. , renewing his attack ;_-M Keating, told the e that the Seenatox "Owes it to the American people to say he was wrong." He should come forward and admit he made a mistake, " Stratton said. Stratton also quoted Bruce from a newspaper article as saying he would not nvinceed by anything McNamara said. "These people you just don't convince, " Stratton said. The comment prompted Rep. Cornelius E. Gallagher, D-N. J., to observe ac idly. "They are not impressed by the statements of Mr. McCone, Secretary McNamara, and the President; but they are completely impressed by the statements of people like Moose Tsh ?nbe."
