Locations and Purposes of Visits: 25X1 The undersigned visited the David Clark Company from 17-20 March to discuss technical status of engineering activ- ities on the S-1010 PPA, discuss financial status of contracts, participate in cold-water immersion evaluations and to con- duct S-1010 PPA indoctrination and fittings for an The ARO Corporation in Buffalo, N. Y. was visited on 21 22 March to conduct 5-1010 PPA altitude chamber training for Harry Drew, to test and discuss an improved LOX System for possible U-2R use, and to discuss financial status of contracts. 2. Results of Visit to David Clark Company: a. Technical Review: ECP's and Service Bulletins approved to date were reviewed and progress was found to be satisfactory. Forthcoming ECP's to provide improved helmet tie-down locks and straps, and improved glove disconnects were reviewed. Proposed items were satis- factory. and ECP's will be approved once cost information has been submitted. Financial Status: The present status of contracts DC-1702 and 1704 were discussed and"the following comments apply. (1) DC-1702 (Spares and Mod Kits) At present rate of expenditure the funds obligated will just cover the remaining three (3) months of FY-69. However, additional S-1010 PPA's will be required before the end of FY-69 which will require ad- ditional funding. The undersigned is firming up these requirements at the present time and will request additional funding ASAP. (2) DC-1703 Tech Re s David Clark Company estimates an additional will be 25X1 required to meet requirements or us omer No. 1 for FY-69. The additional requirement has been made available to CMD/Compt/OSA and will be obligated. (3) DC-1704 (Sustaining Engineering and Overhaul Repair) At the present rate of expendi- ture, approximately ould be available at 25X1 the end of FY-69. owever, it was determined that rework of approximately four (4) S-1010 PPA's will be required for re-utilization of assets before the end of the Fiscal Year, and cost of these will con- sume the anticipated excess. In addition, additional funds may be requested by the undersigned to expe- dite additional engineering for proposed improve- ments in cold-water protection. c. Cold-Water Tests: One day was devoted to evalua- tion of the protection from cold-water immersion afforded by the S-1010 PPA and to discussions of possible improve- ments. Evaluations, results and recommendations will be covered in detail in a separate memorandum. d. S-1010 PPA Fittings for This sub- 25X1 ject's S-1010 PPA required minimal moditica ion to make it completely comfortable and safe with respect to mobility and vision. Results of Visit to ARO Corporation: 25X1 a. Altitude Chamber Training for 25X1 No problems were encountered and the satisfactory fit and comfort of this subject's PPA was confirmed. b. Improved LOX System Test: The ARO LOX System, designed to overcome excess consumption encountered with the LAC modified system, was used in the altitude chamber by subjector three (3) hours and by _the undersigned for an a i ional three (3) hours 45 minutes. Performance was as anticipated with normal:.consumption and operating pressures. Test data and recommendations will be presented in a separate memorandum. c. Financial Status of AB-2300: All tasks under Contract AB-2300 appear to be adequately funded based on expenditure rates to date. No new requirements are forecasted, therefore, additional funding should not be required in this Fiscal Year. 4. Action Required: Additional funding will be requested by AMS/OSA for David Clark Company contracts DC-1702 and 1704 to provide additional 5-1010 PPA's for new pilots and to pro- vide additional engineering efforts on improved cold-water protection.
