In hangar number two (No. 7 on the sketch) were 2 JuAer,-.52's, 2 DC-31s, 3 Storct!, 7 flebels, 7Tesse.7- schmidts, and 7 rpitfires (these last were son % to IsraP1 on 12 April 1949). In hang:7r number three (No. 6 on the &catch) are workehopsr and the navigation utation equipped for PSV. b. The military fi,eld at Brno Is located near to ant to the east of the civilian fie1(. There are three subterranean taws, one (No. 2 on the sketch) of 50,000 hl for gasoline, one (No. 3 on tie sketch) of 30,000 hl for gasorne? and one (ITo. 4 on the sketch) of .2,000 hi for oil. The school is commanded by General Ruppel? a pilot officer who fought first in the RAF and later in the corps corranded by General Svoboda in the UnSR. Ruppel is a Communist. His deruty in Col.' Frantisek Hurych, also a Comnunist. e. The studente,numberang about 200, are divided into groups and squadrons . Each grour is compoeod of three squadrons. The first school squadron is coemanded by Staff Captain Sachl? the second by CaptainZasef Audrnicky? and the third by !7taff Captain Jan Turek. d. In the first year instruction is given bathe Zlin 281-06 twiner. There is a total of 40 aircraft (Formerly trainees received training in Backer C4's with a Hirth engine and C-104's with a 'Talther Minor engine. These planes numbering 20 remain at Hradec Kralov unused and will probably be used by flying clubs). The second year's training is in Arado C2 traieers with 420 hp Argus engines; there are 40 of these, of which 10 are aro:ended. Besides these there are on the field 3 Siebelos 2 OAPs, and 5 Piper Cubs, Which are used by the instructors. All these planes are kept in four hane gars; the fifth hangar to the north of the field belongs to the local aye ina club. ee The field at Pardubice is used for the third year of the Air Academy for students specializing in fighters (at present 36 students). There are 40 ME-109's (5e199) of thieh 35 are one-seatere, 10 Arado C21s, 3 Zlin 282 C6's, 1 Cap, 2 Piper Cubs, and 15 to 20 Siebel 03's and C3ble. e. Radar experinente are being conducted.on the Chrudim field. A course for radio telegrarhers is given here. It is interesting to note that the VTLII.? Military and Aeronautical Research Institute, is now conducting experiments in radar installations in the Siebel aircraft. The Institute is still ia the experimental stage. , 1.1gazzatiga a. The Czech aircraft factories of PrahaeLetnany have just received an order to manufacture 4,200 Yak planes for 1950. These factories also make the .spare parts for these craft, which are delivered to the USSR. The desigae ing offices are extremely closely guarded. rIx MVD men have been assigned to guard the factory. Military eaard is secured by Soviet Air Force Captain Priznov. b. Representative Jura of the Czech Trade Union Organization and the Transportation Commission of the rlommunist Party have atterpted to eliminate General Stanorsky, Director of Aviation in the Ministry of Transportation, but the latter was saved. by the intervention of Gottwald and the military. c. Civilian and military experts and the Minister of Transportation are in dis- agreement over the construction of the Cernovice-Slatina-Turany airfield (Brno area). There is also a str-ggle going on between the Czechoslovak Air- lines (CSA) and Dr. Holy.* Upon the intervention of Dr. Pohl of the Economic Section of the Office of President Gottwald, of Representative Jura of the trade union, and of several Moravian technicians, General Kubita, Director of the CSA, was dismissed form his post in spite of the eurport of the mili- tary (General %din and General Vicherek). d. The airfield at Zlin is the object of a five-year plan Which anticipates a large develorment.
