SAFE A. On 5-6 October, the COINS Project Management Office held a conference to review COINS security and related problems. I the SAFE COTR, gave a briefing on the SAFE Project experience with communications security. The briefing'sr esponse. indicated a high. degree of interest in the SAFE exper7ince. B. On 7 October, two CSPO representatives attended a briefing sponsored by OPQ on the status of a wideband communications system installed at the 25X1 representatives had been invited by ORD to give 7briefing on t the system with special emphasis on the technical control techniques being used. COMSEC representatives and a representative of the I I also attended the briefing. The presentation was of direct interest to 11 parties because the Lsystem is ver similar to both the 25X1 Systems and involves some of the same major vendors. The system contains 13 miles of cable which have been in use for 2 years and the system is only partially complete. The technical control facility consists partially of off-the-shelf procured equipment with the remainder developed in-house by 25X1 It provides effective monitoring of major components throughout the system. The briefers handed out copies of complete software and engineering manuals for the system to the attendees. C. Work continued during the week on the installation of. the first Burroughs computer in the Northside Computer Center by Burroughs personnel. Diagnostic tests and adjustments are winding up with a benchmark run scheduled for 15 October. Turnover to TRW for acceptance. testing is scheduled for 19 October. ODP personnel from the SAFE Computer Operations Branch have begun labeling switches and power panels in the facility. On 8 October, SAFE Project Director, met with of the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss various procurement/ contracting options under consideration at DMA. 2. ADSTAR A. 0 and the Government reached a mutual agreement on the legibility criteria to be used for acceptance of OCR's ADSTAR System. B. The. Interface System Design.
