MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Special Activities
SUBJECT: Defense Vulnerability Analysis
Project (IDEALIST)
REFERENCE: Memorandum from D/SA to D/OSI; dated
21 January 1966; Subject: Hughes
Aircraft Corporation Contract Amend-
ment for OSA IDEALIST Requirement
1. This memorandum contains a recommendation for the
approval of the Director, OSA. Such recommendation is in
Paragraph 6.
2. The above referenced memorandum requested the Hughes
Aircraft Corporation be tasked to prepare an initial study on
defense analysis vulnerability. This was accomplished and the
results presented on 20 April 1966.
3. Subsequent discussions on the study led to the belief
that the Hughes' approach is valid and that they should be al-
lowed to continue and finalize the program. The side effects
and fallout from this continuance would be extremely beneficial.
The program would be flexible in that it would be the basis, for
extrapolation to other vehicles and systems both within and with-
out the IDEALIST program as well as fighter interceptors other
than the MIG-21.
4. The Defense Vulnerability Analysis System will be an
integrated effort utilizing Hughes, OSI, OEL and OSA personnel
resources. The Automation Division, OSA, will coordinate the
total effort.
5. Contract costs are estimated to totall -1 OSI 25X1A
