A r) Approved For Release 2004/05/21 : CI-RCP81 00980R000700020014-8 23 March 1978 /'~/j-= OLC: 78-1182 SUBJECT: Meeting with David Pickens, of the House Select Committee on Narcotics & Drug Abuse Control, on 23 March 1978 1. 1I Met this morning with David Pickens, of the House Select Committee on Narcotics & Drug Abuse Control staff, at the Committee offices for approximately two hours . The purpose of the meeting was to receive from Mr. Pickens a list which he had prepared outlining the follow-up items which the Committee had requested from the CIA during the hearing held on Monday, 20 March 1978. Those items appear as attachment to this memorandum with action staffing as indicated. 2. I u In addition to picking up and discussing with Mr. Pickens the various requests, we discussed in general terms the subject of how the hearings were going. Mr. Pickens noted that, although certain members of the Committee were not entirely happy with CIA's responses to their initial queries, the Committee felt overall that CIA's presentation before the Committee was the most frank and forthright of all the agencies that-had appeared before the Committee. Mr. Pickens made special note of the fact that Representative Paul Rogers (D., Fla.) was very impressed with I I manner _51 presentation. Mr. Pis ens went on to state that he felt the Congriessmen's primary concern was not so much with the fact that the CIA did not have as much information on the subject matter of the hearing as they had hoped we would, but rather the fact that hearings thus far indicate to the Committee that the various agencies of the Executive Branch do not share information nor coordinate matters of common interest as well as they should. 3.1 --VIr. . Pickens requested that if at all possible, the Committee staff would like to have our final response in their hands not later than 3 April 1978. I did not commit myself on this matter, but rather told Mr. Pickens that I would check with the various offices involved as to what was required to respond to the requests and that I would get back to him today.
