The School for Under-Officers had four compaLies, each company having 150 men; each company had four platoons and each platoon had. threesquads. The school was attended by soldiers from all over Bohemia; the duration of the course was three months. The total number of officers in the school was slx, the highest grade being that of first lieutenant. There were 18 under-officers and 750 men. 3. The soldiers were armed with German rifles model 98N. L. The soldiers were trained in the use of mines, e g, antitank mines, infantry mines of Soviet, Gorman and Czechoslovak makes. Various methods of mine-laying were taught. One method was with the help of a compass; each mine had to, be marked on a map. Another method was with the help of a cord; the cord vas 50meters long, and the places where the mines were to be laid were marked with kuoia on the string. Antitank mines were laid six meters apart. Infantry mines were laid about two meters apart. The soldiers were taught also about various baible gases and chemical warfare. This subject dealt only in theory and it was taught\ four hours per month. Another subject taught was engineers' training, which included road building, building of road blocks and bridges, digging of positiOni for artillery, machine guns and riflemen and the building of the so-called ' zemljanky.'! This training also dealt only with theory, mainly because there was no material available, eg fer tee bridge construction. Theory of explosives wa$ taught also. 5. The following men were members of this unit: (a) 1st Lt (fnu) Kocourek, commander of the school, 24 years old, height 175 centimeters,. thin, brown hair, a devoted Communist. (0) Lt (fnu) tires, political officer. 26 year old, height 170 centimeters, thin, brown hair, a devoted Communist.
