OF PAGES REQUIREMENT RENCES S C THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE. THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) Comment. Since this order of battle summary is limited to identified un s only, actual strengths in these areas are probably greater than indicated. Yunnan 1. The Chinese communist 14 Army is along the Yunnan-Burma frontier, with its headquarters in Paoshan (N 25-07, E 99-09). Its total strength is 30,000 men.l 2. The 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, and 109 Provincial units2 are stationed along the Yunnan-Indochina frontier and,with 6,000 troops in each unit, have a total strength of 36,000 men. 3. The 13 Army, witha total strength of 30,000 men, has its headquarters in K'aiyuan (N 23-42, E 103-14),and is stationed between Ningerh (N 23-03) E 105-05) and Mengtzu (N 23-20, E 103-23). 4 The 43 Div .sion,3 19 Army, is in the Kunming area and has an estimated strength of 10,000 men. 5. 6. The 72 Regiment,4 with an estimated strength of 2,000 men, is in the Ningerh area. The 3 Public Security Regiment,5 with an estimated strength of 2,000 men, is at Wanting (N 24-00, E 97-55)- total strength of 20,000 men.? Kwangsi At least one army of the 21 Army Group is in the Nanning area. This army has a strength of 30,000 men. The 219 Division,7 with an estimated strength of 6,000 men, is in Liuchou. 9. The 12 Public Security Division, which was formerly the 147 Division, 49 Army,8 is in the-Quatre Socs (sic) area of Fangch'eng (N 21-46, E 108-23). It has a strength of 10,000 men. 10. The 90 unit (pu 6752) is in Nanning, the 50 unit (pu 6752) is in Chinghsi .(N e3-09, z a-O6-25), and the 103 unit (pu 6752) is unlocated in Kwangsi. Kwazl--. g 1l. The 41 11ex-army'r9 (sic), with a strength of 30,000 men, is on the Leichou Peninsula 12.. The 43 Army, with a strength of 30,000 men, is on Hainan. Comments 1. Throughout this report, strength figures for most units appear to be paper Figures, derived by assuming that there are 10,000 men in a division and 30,000 men in an army. 3. The 43 Division, present army subordination unknown, was formerly subordinate to the 15 Army, and is now tentatively carried in Yunnan. 25X1 4. Presumably this'.is the 72 Regiment, 24 Division, 8 Army, since this office knows of no provincial or public security unit in Yunnan with this numerical designation. Available information tentatively places the 8 Army in the Tatung (N 40-o6, E 113-14) area of Shansi. 25X1 the 3 Pubic Security Regiment was in Chenyueh (N 21 - 5 ' , 1 0 1 - 2 0 ) in m ember and it 25X1 comprised eight companies totalling 1,300 men. 6. Available information places the 51 Army.in the Nanning-Lungchou (N 22-22, -E'106-56) area, the 52 Army in the Liuchou-P'ingnan. (H 23-33) E 110-22) area, and the '53 Army in the Kueilin area.-These armies comprise the 21 Army Group. 7. No such. unit is known to this office. The dissolution of the 49 Army and the transformation of the 147 Division into the 12 Public Security Division have been previously reporte Available information places the 41 Army in the Huiyang-Swatow area.
