1. The regimental headquarters staff of the 2 Tank Regiment has a CO (dommanding
Officer), a deputy CO for political Affairs, an adjutant, a liaison officer,
and a guard officer. The following regimental officers have been indentified:

2. The 2 Tank Regiment, which is subordinate to the 1 Armored Brigade in Sofia,
includes a quartermaster company with 120 men; a medical platoon with 40
men, a telephone and radio platoon with 45 mmen, and an ordnance platoon with
40 men. It also includes a supply company with 160 men. This company
includes the following: a truck drtyer platoon; a mechanics platoon; a
tailoring,. shoemaking and carpentry platoon; and a fuel storage platoon.
The Regiment has three battalions; two are in Salmopol and one is in Razgrad.
Each battalion has three batteries and four platoons. Each platoon has 12
men and all troops are armed with 7.62-mm. Soviet carbines.
3. Troops train for two hours every morning, while technical personnel work
in the workshops. Training includes basic training, infantry training,
the study of engines, tank training, training with weapons, telephone and
radio training, and political training three times a week. Tank training

includes complete knowledge of tanks, the driving of tanks, radio operation,
and handling of guns of tanks.
4. Each company of the regiment has 12 tanks. The tanks of the regiment are
either tanks with 300-horsepower engines or T-34 (85) tanks. These two
types of tanks are described as follows :
a. The tank with the 300-horsepower engine has an 8.5-em. gun and a machine
gun located below and to the aide of the gun. The turret of the tank
does not revolve, but the barrel of the gun can be moved at a certain
angle towards the side. This tank has three pair of small wheels which
are connected by a small round spring. Three small supporting wheels
are above these other wheels. The body of the tank., which looks like
a coffin, is angular in the front and in the back. Three cases of
ammunition are on both sides of the tank gun. Each case contains eight
shells. The radio and the six cylinder engine is located in the rear
of the tank. The regiment has 36 Soviet tanks of this type.
b. The T-34 (85) tank has five large wheels between the caterpillar treads
and two small wheels in front and back.
Each tank includes a driver., who sits in front on the right; an assistant
driver who,-sits next to the driver and who is a machine gunner; two gun
teams who are in the back of the tank at the gun; and a radio man who is
also in the back of the tank. The ammunition of each tank includes grenades,
armor piercing shells, shrapnels, and phosporous she1]s. Each tank has five
machine pistols and a case of egg-shaped hand-grenades of Bulgarian make. It
also has a came with red, green., and white signal flares. The flares are
fired from the; machine pistols with machine-pistol rounds. A tank has two
gasoline tanks, with a capacity of 500 liters of gasoline each; an adjustable
radio antenna in the back; and a hook which is fastened to the back of the

In order to prevent shocks, the engine is not built into the tank, but is
connected to the rear only by an axle switch (achaenschaltung).
The tank troops are well cared for. In the morning they receive bread and
coffee. At lunch they have a three-course meal and at dinner they have a
two-course meal. The troops have cloth uaife as, but wear dark overalls
with leather lining when on duty with tanks.
