REFERENCES This is UNEVALUATED Information 28 July' 1955 z RD 1. A pilot and soldier boards ship one mile out from the en- trance to the Sulina mouth of a Danube River; The ship moored at Sulina. After completion of inspection and control formalities, the soldier went ashore, a second pilot boarded, and the'ship continued upstream* than 10. ,000 could, navigate and maneuver easily on the rivers 3. At Galati an inspection party composed of a police agent, a customs official, two civilian port officials. and three soldiers boarded the ship. They first examined the documents and papers of the ship and checked the ship's seal. The'crew was mustered on the deck and, with two of the ship's personnel assisting, the ship was searched. They were particularly con- cerned with determining if arr stowaways were aboard. Later each of the crew was checked with the list of personnel and his identification card. 4. at Galati; Cargo to be loaded is brought to the harbor in trucks and transferred to the ships* There were two cranes acity of 1.5 tons each at the barge 5. Two factories were under construction to the east of the inner harbor at Galati, In front of them iron poles were driven into the ground in the direction of the waterfront. The space between the poles was filled with stones and gravel. 6. At 1300 hours on 9 May, three jet planes were observed flying over Galati.
