1. Between 24 and 31 July 1955, th4 Luftnachrichten Kaserne (4241) in Bernau
was occupied by some 2,500 soldiers wearing red-bordered black eepaulet:25X1
with tank and artillery insignia; black epaulets,and blue-bordered black
epaulets. The engineer unit was at the installation during the period
under review. Heavy weapons observed included 9 tanks, presumably T-34/855
and 2 x 122-mm field howitzers. Columns of 301to 50 soldiers left for
training at the Schoenow post training area. 25X1

2. After 30 July, the 2ormer Army Clothing Depot I in Bernau was occupied
almost to capacity. More than 30 field howitzers were seen in the installation,.
The sheds for the 100-mm AT guns and tractors were also occupied to capacity.
AT guns of 85 and 57 mm were also seen. The rocket launchers were still
stationed at the installation.

Between 24 and 31 July, the SS Brieftaubenstation (home pigeon station)
4243 in Bernau was occupied by only about 60 soldiers.3Four 37-mm AA
guns were seen in the settlement in the quartering area.
On 28 July, intensive combat activity was ob.~.erved at the Schoenow post
training grounds. Firing, presumably with target practice, was heard
from all directions. At 2200, 19 T-34/85 tanks left toward Schwanebeck.4
5. Between 27 and 29 July, former Army Clothing Depot I in Bernau was again
occupied to capacity by approximately 3,000 soldiers who wore red-bordered
black epaulets with artillery and motor-transport insignia. Some 350
trucks were parked in front of the vehicle sheds in the south section of
the installation. Ap000 howitzers were also observed there.
On 29 July, some 50 re .observed for the first tin.:e.
They had a 6 neing of armored half-track personnel
carriers. The rocket ad been parked in the installation,
were not observed on some 20 soldiers received
instructio4on 2 mine detectors.
6. Between 30 Jixl-v a tnd I Aug"Ut, Soviet units with tanks and rocket launchers
held an exeroiae in the wrc a area between Ahrensfelde and Blumberg, about
8 km. southeast if Bernau. T.,.34 tanks aid larger tanks, the guns of which 25X1
had muzzle brakes, and 2 different types of rocket launchers including

M-13s were observed. The units came from the former Army Clothing Depot and
the Flieger Kaserne on the road to Wandlitz (Luftnachrichten Kaserne (4241))
in Bernau and from Wuhlhaide. In the evening fcf 30 July, the tanks arrived
in Ahrensfelde and crossed the cemetery.'
7. At 0900 on 3 August, a troop train of about 4 boxcars and 20 to 40 flatcars
with approximately 10 armored personnel carriers (?)approximately 10 trucks
and 10 to 20 guns of 2 different calibers between 70 and6130 mm.was seen
at the Eberswalde railroad station head$d toward Berlin.
8. At 1400 on 4 August, 10 trucks and approximately 120 soldi rs with steel
helmets were entrained at the Eberswalde railroad station.
9. On 30 July, large assemblies of Soviet tanks, AT guns, artillery, and some
160 trucks were obserged in the woods of Pechteich, west of Finowfurth.
Between 1930 and 2130, some 160 trucks, 15 x 85-mm AT guns, 3 x 57-mm AT
guns, 10 x 122-mm field howitzers and 30 armored personnel carriers assed
through Finowfurth en route from the direction of the autobahn toward
Eberswalde. The column included an estimated 1,000 soldiers wearing red-
bordered black and black-bordered crimson epaulets. 8 25X1
10. At 0830 on 18 July, a troop train passed through the Eberswalde railroad
station, presumably en route from the direction of Angermuende toward
Freienwalde. The train carried 23 T-34 tanks, a tank without turret and 25X1
approximately 20 soldiers
1. Comment. The units, which are believed to be stationed in the 25X1
Luftnachrichten Kaserne in Bernau, were apparently at the intallation
view. Training was conducted near the post. 25X1

rocket launchers, which could not be observed in the installation on
20 Jul had probably left for the exercise in the area southeast of the
post. The instruction on mine detectors was 25X1
probably held within the framework of engineer training of troops; it
does not indicate the presence in the installation of an engineer unit. 25X1
Comment. The departure and loading of the bulk of the 120th (?)
AAA Rapt of the 6th Gd z Div. on 5 July was previously reported.
Div., which had remained at the post,
