COCOM Document No. 3587
COORDINATING COMMITTEE
RECORD OF_.SS,CUSSTON
ON
UNITED KINGDOM PROPOSAL TO EXPORT AIRBORNE COMMUNICATIONS AND NAVIGATION
EQUIPMENT TO THE SOVIET ZONE OF GERMANY
Juno_22nd
Present: Belgium (Luxembourg), Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy,
Japan, Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
References: COCOM 3511, 3544, 3560, 3572.
1. The CHAIRMAN recalled that at the previous meeting (COCOM 3572) the
United Kingdom Delegate had asked the Members of the Committee to reconsider
their objections to this export. He invited Delegates to give the further
views of their authorities.
2. The UNITED STATES Delegate said that his authorities had given further
consideration to the United Kingdom request but had found no cause to modify
their objection. They pointed out that the Notes to Item 1501 cited by the
United Kingdom related to only a small part of the equipment listed in the
United Kingdom proposal. There was no question of servicing scheduled flights
to Free World countries nor were there any overriding advantages or justifications
to this export.
3. There was no change in the position of the other Members of the Committee.
4. The UNITED KINGDOM Delegate thanked his United States colleague for
his reply and said that he would inform the Committee in due course of what
his authorities eventually decided in this matter.
