Dr. 'William Gibson,
CIA Political Scientist,
Dies of Heart Attack
Dr. William M. Gibson, 47, po=
litical scientist with the Central
Intelligence Agency here, died of
a heart attack Friday in Doctors
Hospital. He lived at 5007 Ran-

dall lane, Sumner, Md.
Dr. Gibson was born in Balti-
more and held a B. A. degree from
Richmond University. He later
did graduate work at Harvard
and Duke Universities, earning, a
Ph. D. from the latter.
A political science professor at
Duke from 1934 to 1942, he then
entered the Navy as a lieutenant.
commander. During World War
II he did intelligence work' for
the Navy at San Diego and lvas
discharged after three gnd one-
half years service.
Dr.. Gibson returned to teaching
at Duke. He was with CIA here
frgtii 1947 until his death.
He was a member of a Balti
more Masonic lodge, Lambda Chi
fraternity at Duke and the First
Presbyterian Church of Durham.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
~Orene K. Gibson; his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar M. Gibson of .
Baltimore: a brother, Allen P.I
Gibson of Lafayette; La., and a
sister, Mrs. J. L. Lau of Balti-
more.
Funeral services will be at 9:15
~a.m. Wednesday at the Hinesl
funeral home, 2901 Fourteenth
,'street N.W'. Burial will be at 10
a.m. in Arlington Cemetery.
