The. initial phase of the FBI
probe has established that Sen.
Dodd's files were "removed"
rather than "stolen," according
to a 'reliable source. This
indicates that facsimiles were

Sen. Dodd is a former FBI
agent and long-time friend of
director J. Edgar Hoover. FBI
officials became incensed 'when
Mr. Pearson and Mr. Anderson
charged that FBI agents were
harassing the columnists '
informants but ignoring the
conflict-of-i n t e r e s t charges
against. the Senator.
The charges against Sen.
Dodd are that he gave aid to
foreign agent Julius Klein and
converted to personal use much
of some $200,000 raised for him I
at campaign dinners.
Announcing it will hold
hearings on the Klein matter,,
the Committee said that on
completion of that phase of the
investigation, it "will decide.
what further hearings to hold."
