Ed Saunders reports that he has talked to Mr. Nease, Professional Staff Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and has requested that the Coanmit- tee give us a letter similar to the one we got from the House on "no year" money. There seems to be some doubt in Ed's mind that the Committee will actually call us for a Hearing, but he emphasized that we would be ready to come at any time. 2. Told Jim Garrison not to discontinue the after-hours transportation ser- vice established for the purpose of getting our girls to bus terminals, etc., re- gardless of whether or not it was illegal. 3. Jim and I called on Mr. Raymond Blattenberger, Public Printer, to dis- cuss the possible merger of the South Building GPO Plant with our 25X1A Printing and Reproduction Plant. Mr. Eastin sat in on this conference an was incensed at learning of this proposed merger for the first time from us. I don't think that Mr. Blattenberger was particularly ruffled, but if Mr. Eastin has any influence over him Mr. Lefebvre is in for a rough time for having discussed the matter with us and with the Staff of the Joint Committee on Printing without tell- Mr. Blattenberger that he was doing so. Mr. Blattenberger thought that there d ing was considerable merit in the proposal that CIA take over the GPO Plant ands as a matter of fact, stated flatly that if he were in my position he would do so. He further indicated that as far as he could see there would be no objection on the part of the Government Printing Office and, also, that he thought we would have no difficulty whatever in holding on to all of the personnel there since most of them would not want to come back to the main plant. It was agreed that I would address a letter to Mr. Blattenberger merely stating in substance that the suggestion of a merger had been made, that we would like to explore it further, and ask him to designate a representative to explore it with us. He indicated that he would forward this letter to the Joint Committee' on Printing and that if the Committee gave its blessing we would go ahead and make the exploration, reserving any decision until all the facts were known and studied. 4. Attended a Project Review Committee Meeting at which the PM and NEA Pro- grams for Fiscal Year 1955 were approved subject to the availability of funds. 25X1A6a Approved For Release 2000/08/27 : CIA-RDP76-00183R000100030054-3 25X1A9a Approved For Release 2000/08/27 : CIA-RDP76-00183R000100030054-3 Next 3 Page(s) In Document Exempt Approved For Release 2000/08/27 : CIA-RDP76-00183R000100030054-3
