DIARY NOTES
DD/S 27 April 1965
1. We delivered a transcript of the remarks made at yesterday's
awards ceremony in the auditorium to who said that he wished
to use it to prepare a farewell letter to the troops from Mr. McCone. (I
want to follow up on this so that these remarks are distributed on a rather
wide basis in case Mr. McCone does not sufficiently include them in his
farewell letter or does not write one at all.)
2. Alan Warfield advised me that the General Services Administration
has a surplus, new Chrysler Imperial which we could purchase for about
$3, 800. I talked with Mr. Kirkpatrick about this and explained that, while
we would like to have the car, it would not be entirely consistent with Bureau
of the Budget Circular No. A-22. However, our Lincoln has been driven
72, 000 miles, and our Cadillac, 54, 000 miles. Kirk requested that we pur-
chase the Chrysler, and he accepted the responsibility for taking this action
without first checking with the Bureau of the Budget.
3. Larry Houston advised me that Senator John J. Williams of Delaware
is still under the impression that we owe him a letter based on his request
of 18 March 1964 that we supply considerable information about
reminded Larry that GSA
Administrator Bernard Boutin had written Senator Williams a letter dated
27 April 1964. In this letter, however, GSA did not supply any dollar figures.
I asked Larry to tell Senator Williams that we will advise GSA that we have
no objection to their furnishing the dollar figures but that we feel it is a GSA
rather than a CIA responsibility to comply with this request.
4. was in for a courtesy call. He is on home leave from
- He will return in June but was not sure whether he would stay for a
full tour.
John Tietjen called about the following items:
a. He suggested that I advise Admiral Raborn of our medical
facility and tell him that we would be glad to look after his medical needs
if he has no personal physician. I told John that I would try to do this
and that I felt sure the Admiral did not have a personal physician since
he would normally depend on the Bethesda Naval Hospital.

b. John reported that he will lea Thursday, 29 April, for San
Antonio, Texas, John will return over the 25X1 A9a
weekend.
c. John also advised me that he has a paper on privacy which he
would like me to read at my convenience.
6. Mrs. White and I attended an informal party at the White House
during which President Johnson presented the National Security Medal to
Mr. McCone.
7. I talked to Admiral Raborn again about his housing needs. Based
on a conversation with Mrs. Raborn, he now thinks that it might be a good
idea to find a furnished place on a short-term basis which they could move
into rather soon. Then they could look around more leisurely for a perma-
nent home and decide whether to rent or buy. He requested that we con-
centrate on this approach, and I passed this on to At the
Admiral's request I also talked with Mr. William C. Miller of W. C. and
A. N. Miller and arranged for Ed to see what this firm has to offer.
