6. Contractor's Performance:
a. On schedule and expected to remain so: No
b. Within obligated funds and expected to remain so: Yes
c. Satisfactory technical progress: Yes
7. Project Status:
The case and front panel for the engineering model are finished,
with the exception of front panel engraving. The receiver is completely
assembled and is being tested. Tests thus far indicate that performance
is about the same as that of the RS-100 receiver, with one significant
exception. Repackaging the tuner has resulted in a lower front end
"'Q", and consequently a lower image rejection. A comparison of image
rejection for the RS-100 and RS-l01 is shown:
RS-l00 RS-101
Band 1 63 db 63 -48db
Band 2 82 - 53 db 54 - 39 db
Band 3 66 - 46 db 46 - 35 db
Band 4 51 - 31 db 30 - 22 db
M will make a halfhearted attempt to improve these figures (partic-
ularly for Band 4) though little hope is shown.
Five of the six circuit boards for the transmitter have been
built and tested; testing of the sixth was 80% complete. Mechanical
work on the heat sink module was finished and the module was ready
for wiring. The RS-l01 engineering model should be completed by
10 June. Three weeks of testing are then planned.
Work on the five service test models will start the early part
of June. Present programming calls for completion of these in late
September. This is about two and one-half months later than called
for in the contract. About six weeks of this delay is attributed
to a late start caused by indecision on our part concerning front
panel layout. Another delay could be attributed to the extra design
time devoted to the semi-automatic tuner to make it tune to within
less than one turn of the knob. The difficulty of obtaining parts
and services because of the problems in Vietnam also slowed the
program.
At the moment, the only unresolved. . . .

At the moment, the only unresolved procurement problem involves
the transmitter power transistors. The transistor type that had been
promised by RCA .(and supplied as a sample) did not get into production.
Clevite Division of ITT is about to begin production of a transistor
that will serve adequately. _ does not have any of these now, but
they do have promises that appear to be valid of delivery in time to
meet the schedule as outlined above.
