1. Project Description:
The AC-3 is an III' antenna coupler which provides an impedance
range of 35 to 1200 ohms resistance and 0 to ? J1200 ohms reactance
and a transmission line of 50?J 0 ohms impedance. The AC-3 is
manually operated and provides the impedance match over the 3 to
30 Mc/s range with a VSWR of less than 2:1 while handling 400 watts
of continuous RF power. The AC-3 can measure and monitor the forward
and reflected power (and hence the VSWR) in the transmission line,
and contains a protective circuit which deenergizes the transmitter
when a preset level of reflected power is exceeded due to mistuning
or malfunction. An internal 50 ohm dummy load (over 3 to 30 Mc/s)
is included to permit matching of the transmitter. Primary power to
operate the AC-3 is 120/24o (?10%o), 50 60 cps, AC mains.

7. Project Status :
An assembled AC-3 external case was exhibited to demonstrate
external styling of the unit. The shadow molding is a part of the
dust cover and approximates the appearance of - equipment. 25X1A6a
The cuts were in the front panel to indicate position of the
various controls, meter, lights, counters, etc. The revised
method of rack mounting the AC-3 in the adapter panel was
described. An engineering drawing detailing the panel is avail-
able in EP.
About 75% of the required parts to build two preproduction
units are available at Long lead items are the dummy
load (current estimated delivery date unavailable), gears (June),
shafts for gear trains (June), etc. The ceramic drums from the
Company previously scheduled for delivery on 28 March have
been rescheduled for late May. As a result, is having
two drums handmade at a cost of $190 vs. $37 or MeSones being
purchased in lots of 100.
The iron cores will be molded by a Pennsylvanian firm to a
spec established by A pilot run of ten is being run
prior to molding the ance of 90. Mr. planned to visit
the firm on the 18th of April to establish the test parameters
and insure compatibility with incoming test inspection
department.

Initial quantities of PC boards have been assembled and about
50% of the metal work is complete. Unless a "DX" procurement
priority with a high enough rating can be established, the prepro-
duction units will not be available until mid-June at the earliest.
