The Linguist Support Staff (LSS) proposes to reactivate the 25X1 A Intensive Rumanian Reading Course on or soon after 20 May the Intensive Polish Reading Course on or soon after 27 May ; and the Italian Grammar and Reading Course, with 25X1 A 00 as instructor, the week of 8 July o last about 16 weeks). invited further nominations from the branches. b. started the OTR Elementary Spoken Rumanian course on 6 May. It lasts 24+ weeks and calls for 6 hours instruction and 9 hours of laboratory per week. The LSS was informed of the course too late to ask advance approval from the Board. The Board approved it retroactively. c. The following FDD personnel took FDD exams; 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A Rumanian B plus French C Russian A minus Reverse Spanish C (good non-native) d. fishes to take a summer course in First Year Russian 25X1A at the 6 credits, off-duty. wanted to know if it was possible to take this course at the Agency expense ($102)? He plans to take the course at his own expense if CIA declines to sponor it. The Registrar of OTR advises that OTR probably will not pay for the course, as it could supply training in the Agency at less expense; but it probably would allow 5% training credit. The Board approved applying for financial sponsorship. announced the following for the information of the Board: is scheduled to attend Part II - Introduction to Communism course, 10 - 21 June 1957. The Board recommended and the Acting Chairman approved the following promotions: GS-11 to GS-12 GS-7 to GS-9 GS-5 to GS-7 GS-3 to Gs-4 recommended and the Board approved for a scientific pay adjustment. 25X1A With regard to an inquiry made b 25X1A to take the OTR course "Americans Abroad" suggested Training as a follow-up course, it was agreed that the Div sion would decide if and when a person should attend such a course, since it usually benefited only those going overseas in the immediate future. 25X1A eviewed a Career Preference Outline fo who expressed an immediate desire to go overseas. He would also cons er an assignment to Contact Division. The Board suggested that his file be circulated for possible reassignment. 25X1A reviewed a Career Preference Outlines f with no added comments. 25X1A nounced the reassignment o from Reports Branch to the USSR Branch. reminded the Board that before the next Board meeting it will be time to take up the matter of finding a replacement for the secretarial position in the Eastern Europe Branch.
