Dear Mr. Secretary: ,-s you know, the Congress is presently considering S. 1110, a bill to provide for a Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. 'I his bill has now passed the Senate and will be before the House rrned Services 'Committee on 24 March. It is also scheduled for considera- tion on the House Floor this week. The President has stated that he intends to nominate Lt. Gen. Charles P. Cabell, USAF, to the office of Deputy Director as soon as S. 1110 becomes law. In reporting S. 1110, the Senate .Armed Services Committee has added an amendment to require Senate confirmation for the nominee for the office of Deputy Director of Central Intelli- gence. 't'herefore, in view of the fact that General Cabell is an Air Force officer, we would greatly appreciate it if the i' it force would prepare the necessary papers for forwarding to the Ahite House which are required in submitting General Cabell's nomination to the Senate. If this Agency can be of any assistance to you in preparing the necessary papers, please do not hesitate to call upon us. I should like to mention that the legal title of the position which General C.abell will hold will be "Deputy Director of Central Intelligence.
