The plant was formerly a machine.,b1.114pIrplantirbUt after the
switched to the production of lathes. . Monthly Production was
allegedly 15 to 20 lathes of the sate type and size. The lathe
size was approximately 2x0.5x1.2 meters.
2. The plant employed approximately 800 workers and operated one shift,
from 0800 to 1700 hours. It had a dining root, believed by source
to be in the Administration Building. .The plant produced mines and
mine equipment 'daring World War II.
3. Enclosure A is source's memory sketch of the Dzerzhinskiy Machine-
Building Plant in Yerevan, Armenia, USSR. Following is a legend for
this sketch. Numbers In parentheses refer to numbers on the sketch.

(2) Pass building - a stone single-story building, 4x3x3m. Passes
for the plant were obtained here and workers entering or leaving
the plant premises walked through this building to have their
passes checked. A watchman was always on duty.
(3) Parking space - an open air parking lot which had six or seven
autos when source was there.
(4) Road - within plant premises and leading past all the main
buildings. It was not paved.
(5) Boiler shop - a single-story,':atone,buiiding304:x5 m, believed
to have sheet-metal, hip roof,. After :OheA)lant'became mechanized,
this shop became of secondary importance.
(6) Forge. shop - source believed this shop had three forge-press
hammer8. (See point (7) for a building description).' ?
(7) Thermo-work shop - a single-story, stone building, 16x9x5m with
a metal roof. The building contained ovens.for.the tempering
and .cementation of various machine parts. -
(8). Turning shop - a single-storyo.stone building, 30x12x5m. It
contained So to 70 different types of lathes and. other machines&
Turning lathes, drills, polishing machines;- One large vertical-?'
boring and turning maehine a US-made planing mad.hine. Source
did not know the specifications.of any Madhinta. ? Be stated, that
many were made in Cindinnatl, USA. ? ?
(9) Narrow-gauge railroad tracks - within the plant area only. There
were no locomotives'or power-driven engines Small ears were
moved manually.
(10) Painting and packing shop - a single-story, stone building,
.6x10x5m4 Spray-gun painting was dOne.in this .shOp.
(11) Turning and machine shop - a single-story, stone building,
40x16x7m. It contained a traveling crane with a capacity of.
up to five tons. 'Large. machine parts were formed here. ,There
were approximately 45 different. type machines in the Shop.
?linHassembly shop making Screw-cutting lathes with dimensions
40.5x1.2m wais"alto? in this building.
(12) .Foundry shop - a single-story building, 40x14x8m, with a metal
-hip roof. It had a stationary crane with 'a three-ton capacity.
This shop also made sand'cores,fortilling various machine parts.
(13) Tool shop - handed out instruments to workers as needed. Source
was never in this shop.
(119 Plant administration - a two-story, stone building, 1226x10m. It
contained, offices of the plant director, chief engineer, chief
technolOgist, chief of production, drafting and designing office,
the bookkeeping section, and a secretary.
(15) Model shop -a single-story, stone building, 10x6x5m. It contained
wood-turning lathes for model-making. This shop was not used as
much as previously.
(16) Fence - a stone, 2.2m-high fence surrounding the plant area.
(17) Finishing shop - asingle-story, stone building, 8x7x5m. This
shop had several revolving drums into which a rough, cast machine
part was put. Small steel balls inside the revolving drum hit
against the machine pait, knotking off roughtparts.
