Medium Tank Battalions (See Annex C) Each of the three medium tank battalions (prior to the deactivation of the '3d Tk Bn in September or October 1952) had approximately 24 officers and 240 However, none had any organic tanks, SP's or vehicles. units which needed armored vehicles for training or for ems rew t em from a consolidated brigade pool. this was because of the limited of armored vehicles avail ab e number 2. Signal Platoon this unit installed and maintained field telephones used in the unit caeerne. no radio equipment in the brigade with the exception of the 9-RS tank radio in the T-34 tanks. t had radios as well. Che~Defense platoon its mission was to decontaminate equipment. It maintained a small supply point for gas capes and masks. This unit v* chemical defense instruction, and approximately two hours a week under this platoon's direction. The instruction was always of a defensive nature. 6. Engineer Platoon it probably did the major repairs, building, ditch digging, *to. that might be needed. 7. Armored Vehicle Repair Shop This unit had three trailers that were fitted out with lathes and tools.. in time of war an armored tractor (which was a T-54 tank minus the turret of which the brigade had three would recover a knocked-out tank and brie it back to one of the three mobile repair trailer shops for repair. these work shops constituted what was known as Grade I armored repair shop atelierul do Gradul I). they would be assigned to all independent armored unite regardless of size. B. STAFF ORGANIZATION OF TICS 11TH TK BRIG 1. Ma.lor Staff Officers the Chief of Staff, Deputy CO for Political Affairs, Deputy CO for Logistics, Deputy CO for Technical Matters, and the brigade doctors were directly responsible to the battalion CO for the activities sub- ordinate to them. Further, that these persons communicated with the brigade GO directly when the need arose. On the other hand, the counterintelligence officer did not. seem to be responsible to the battalion CO Dut received his instructions from and reported to the Securitate. This indivi- iual sent and received correspondence independently and came and went as he saw fit. 2'. Subordinate Staff Sections a. The Chief of Staff (1) Operations and Plans Officer (Ajutorul Commandantului Pentru :egateria do Lupta) This officer was responsible for the training schedule of the (2) Reconnaissance Officer (3) Signal Officer sible for post communications. The Secret Document Section was under the direction of an NCO and was located in the personnel officer's office (7) Small Arms Repair Section This section consisted of one officer and approximately four Of who repaired all of the small arms of the brigade. b. The Deputy CO for Political Affairs (1) Communist Party Secretary This individual took care of Party membership. he probably assisted the political officer in other ways as well but had no further information. (2) Propagandist 25X1 25X1 25X1 (3) Club Officer He ran the officers, club and maintained the brigade librar'. (4) UMT Secretary This individual took care of the MIT memberships. c. Deputy CO for Logistics (1) Rations Section (Ofiter cu Aprovizionare) This section consisted of one officer and 14 8M. They were responsible for buying rations in the local or nearby towns and transporting them to the brigade meashalla. (2) Supply and Repair Section (Ofiter Cu 8ohipament) this section issued and maintained indi- ridual equipment and clothing and had a tailor section and a shoe-repair section. :n addition it hired four or five civilian woman to do the laundry for the poet. The Deputy CO.for Technical Matters (1) Chief of the Brigade Armored Repair Shop (Sef Atelier) This person was responsible for the brigade workshop and assisted the brigade technical officer in his duties. (2) POL Officer products of the unit. this officer kept account of the POL (3) Technical Auto Officer e. The Brigade Infirmary This was staffed with the brigade doctor, a felcher (a master nor- asanti and three medical aid men. It had approximately 20 beds all seriously-injured or gravely-ill personnel were sent to the military hospital in PITESTI for treatment. 4 Annexes, A.
