memorandum was just brought to my attention. In view of the
considerable publicity brought to bear on this case, and because of
ongoing investigations into allegations that the U. S. Government
had assisted him in leaving Germany in 1951, I should like to bring

to a formal request by Justice for a review of our two-volume Barbie
file, and have been told informally that the GAO also would make the
Barbie case a part of its investigation into the alleged illegal
introduction into the United States of Nazi war criminals by OPC.
As in other past investigations by these two agencies, we intend to
make available to their investigators all DO records on this
