1. A "secret and urgent" order.reportedly issued by the General Secretariat
of Madrid Police Headquarters on 4 June 1950 directed a search in Madrid
for the Communist leaders Enrique LISTER Forjan and Juan MODESTO Guilloto.
The order stated that the two Communists were reliably reported to have
entered Spain, having come from the USSR to assume command of bandit
activities, to recruit personnel for military intelligence and to
reorganize Communist cadres. They were reported to have been seen
in Madrid shortly prior to 4 June.
25X1 X 2. The Toulouse - stated at the end of May 1950 that Gear-ral MMODESTO
had been in Spain for some time, and that his mission was to reorganize
the guerrilla movement for.possible future action. also 25X1X
reported efforts by LISTER to establish contacts in Galicia, where the
principal revival of guerrilla activity was to take place.
LJAIr' the leader of Communist operations in Spain, and that his liaison with
the Supreme Milaitary Junta was LISTER. According to - LISTER 25X1A
was scheduled to go to Spain in the summer of 1949, but he reportedly 25X1A
had not left France.by mid September He frequently has
represented the Spanish Communist Party at Communist gatherings of an
international nature. He attended the meeting of the Norwegian CP in
Oslo in February 1950. The Spanish Communist Party celebrated its
thirtieth anniversary on 16 April 1950, and LISTNR reportedly participated
in the celebration at Perpignan, France.
