Attention*,
In connection with work we are doing on Contract AF 33(600)-37827,
we are concerned with isobaric surface shapes. In a telephone conversation
with Norman Sissenwine yesterday, he recommended that our questions be
framed concisely in writing for your consideration.
We would like to know how the shape (i.e. altitude above
sea level) of an isobaric surface depends on the following: season;
latitude; longitude and/or sidereal (or solar) time; and altitude (in
the range 80,000 to 120,00 feet only). We are concerned with this both
parallel to and perpendicular to wind direction, if this is a pertinent
consideration.
If there are security restrictions on the data we have
requested, we can establish need?to-know. Furthermore, if you feel
the information we desire can best be transmitted verbally, we can
arrange to visit Bedford at your convenience.
Your recommendation of the best method by which we can
obtain data within the next two weeks would be appreciated.
