1. The Preparatory Flight School (Le~,ecka Pripr vna Skola -- LPS) was located in the
northeast' corner of Dol:ny Kubin',(f.,,912N--1918 approximately $00 m. east of the
Drava ;firer. A ain~le-track n 81-gauge RR line which led from Kra.lovany /4909N-
190SF,~to Trstena L4927N-1937~was located approximately 100 m. west of the LPS
casern, and atwo-lanes four meter wide, asphalt-surfaced highway, from Ruzombd,rok
,L4905N-1919 to Dolny Kubin and north to Zaekalie was located 500 m. wean of the
caserz~. The school was under the- command of the ~~" ying Sehool Headquarters (Lepecke
Uciliste -- LU) located at Proate,~av ,[~,.92SN-1717 x.
2. There were four types of passes issued at this bane:
a. Cadets axld pra_f~~,~~, ~ermanentfiy?,Per This category of personnel was
required to have the Feraonal Badge. Oaobni Znamka --.OZ), a black tin disk
approximately 50 mm. in diameter and 1~ mm. thick. One side of this disk con-
tamed crossed bayonets and the number 1545 stamped into the metal. This
number was the casern number end atmeared on every pass of this type:

cadet passes wer issued and kept in the cadet company orderly rooms. LAnnex B,
Points 13 and 1,~, and the,.paesea for the p anent personnel were issued and
kept in the orderly room,LAnnex B, Point 1 This pass was issued by the
Charge of Quarters at the orderly rooms only when the person requiring it was
leaving the post, The Charge of Quarters entered name, rank, number of disk,
time and date of departure in a log book; and on the peraonta return entered
the time and date when the pass was turned in. This disk was required for entry
to and ex:tt from the casern. Pass data and, date and time ntries were made
upon exit, and entry by ,guards at the gate ,Annex B, Point ~.

a, list of names of all authorized civilians was maintained ir3

Upon entry r~r~ exit, the guard checked the signature on the
pass with that in the blank-book; he also looked at the photo-
~re.ph nn tkze pass, a log of time and .date of entry and exit
was kept in the book. ~ '
Guards and.GUard Posts
3. A standing guard was posted from 0500 to 100 hours daily at the
corner of designated buildings ~nnex B, Point' 2'~~, Tkx~.s g~.ard
was responsible for. the south and west perimeter of the casern.
No person wad allowed within this perimeter,. From 1900 to 01500
.hours an extra guard was posted. Guards were posted every two hours
and when relieved, reported to the guard house ~nnex B, Foint ,
where they were placed on alert duty and had to remain awake. ~'pon
completion of twca hours alert duty, the sentry was relieved ;by, the
next sentry corri.~,.ng oft' post and' then, shpt far tivo Yiours p After
two hours sleep the guard went back on post. The guard commander
was required to inspect .the guards. and casern twice nightly.
Besides the regular~~u:ard, an alert guard (Hotovost),eomposed of
seven cadets and an eighth. cadet in charge were detailed for the.
duty daily. These alert guards-were on alert duty from 1700 one
day to. 1'700 Yours the next. day. The cadets attended classes and
were allowed to sleep in their billets but had to sleep with their
uniforms on, The detail was armed with CZ subrn,achine uns model
23, with twn clips of 40 rounds each-and one clip of 2~-rounds.
Cadets on alert guard carried their weapons to classes and were.
required to have therri on their. person at all times . Electric
lights Annex B, Pointy 5 and 5~, 1it the perimeter of the com-
pound "Annex ,B, Point ~. For emergencies, an electric alarm
switch: was located near each electric light switch for use of the
sentries. This switch would ring a bell and flash the number of
the location where the alarm was turned in. This brought out the
extra guards and th.e alert. guard of the cadets. All electric lights
on the perimeter wars control-led individually by separate switches.

wheeled 'carriage; approximately $0 em. highs 1 rn. wide and. ,2~ m.
long), Th~.s~unit generated electric power fQr,the casein when
the' power from Dol;ny Kubin failed. ..Power failure occured daily
-for` a coup~.e of hours due ~ to a shortage c-f -electricity i~t , tl~ia
region. One. room contained a telephone switchboard approximately
two meters -wide and cite meter kiigh .operated `by two soldiers, one
teletype machine, one telegraph transmitter key, one telegraph
receiver ( tape recording) , Dire room for fire-~fi~ghting equipment,
'phis equipment was mounted on a stratQher~-type platf?rm and placed
on a. light two-~~wheeled trailer, The equ3:pment could be c~~^rted or
hauled to the scene of afire; the pies-aura pump was powered by
8 water-cooled two-cylinder gasoline engine. Because af..8..water
shortage at the casein during fire drills, the water ?~as obtained
front the Orava River. In the event of an emergency, it was
presumed that a city fire hydrant, located approximately 300 m.
west, of the casein, would be utilized.

Guard Shacks Wooden, unpainted, approximately 3 x ~ x 2~ m. with
a~paper-covered shed roof. The guarr~ shack we.s utilized by
guards who were working at the entrance ~oint ~] as a shelter
and for administration purposes -such as signing of log sheets.
9. Casern Erztrancea A large iron gate of strap-iron construction,
approx rna e y our b four meters. A smaller steel strap gate
approximately 1 or 1 x 3 m. was ad,~aeent to the large gate and
was utilized by pedestrians. This entrance way guarded by AF'
personnel armed-with. nine-millimeter Parabol and P-38 pistols.
10. Canteena Gray blue, one story, approximately SO x 25 x 6 m.,
a~ nga, gray Eternit h~Cp roofs this Canteen.was utilized as an
offi~er~ mess and~club room and an enlisted men's canteen.
11. Theatera Gray blue, one story, approximately 80 x 20 x 12 m.,
s~co d briok, with a gray Eternit hip roof. The seating
capaC~.ty was estimated at 600. This theater was utilized for
group lectures and for the showing of Russian and Czech films
two or three tines weekly. Each showing of a film ended with
propaganda. It also was utilized for physical training during
inclement weather.

Eternit gable -type roof. Located in-this building was the
dispatcher office, garage, and hangar. The dispatcher's office
kept a small stook of light maintenance supplies for ~rehieles,
such ag spark plugs, wrenches, bolts, tires, tire' tubes, light
bulbs, and babte~ries. The garage was utilized by throe 2~-ton
trucks and once passenger car, The hangar was utilized by two
1O6ps, one 105, and a fuselage equipped with a motor of a 106
without wings for instructional purposes, The other planes were
utilized for tax$~ing and instruction purposes. Also minor
maih.tenanoe work was performed on aircraft in this hangar.
13. Cadet Barrack~o This building was the same as the other cadet
aurae s o nt 15~? except that it contained two offices occu-
pied by t e chief of training and did not have a supply rooru.

1~. Practice Taa~~ing Areas This area was completely grass-covered
an~~approxima~e~ X00 m. south to north and X00 m. east to
west. This area was used for practical ground training, tax3,ing,
braking, turning of plane, ground procedure, art~i other funda-
m~nt~ls. For this practical training two 106 and one Teener 105
were used.
15. Cadet Barrackso Gray blue, two stories, "R" shaped, approximately
~~ 'rya, stuccoed brick, with a. gray Eternit hip roof.
This building contained sleeping q~.arters for cadets, the
Company comxr~anders' office, orderly room, supply.rocam, day room,
and one large room for platoon leaders. Sleeping quarters were
divided into eight squad roeams~ each room was approximately:
6 x 12 x 4 m. and quartered 15 cadets, Rifle-rooks containi,.ng
the rifles of the cadets were located in the hallway outside each
squad room. The supply room contained clothing that was issued
to cadets in exchange for unserviceable clothing. Barracks had
waster?oiri and toilet facilities , Orly cold water facilities were
ava.il~able, but hot water facilities were being installed.

had one window and one door covered with meshed screen and
secured with iron bars. The wooden door had an ordinary door
lock plus three padlocks, and a security seal made of sealing
wax, securing the door to the door frame. Four keys were needed
to gain entrance, the ordnance officer kept two keys, one key
was kept by the officer of the day, and one key was kept by the
guard commander. When the building was opened three people were
required to unlock it. No one person was trusted with the whole
set of keys. The officer of the day could never get the other
key from the guard commander.
25. School Buildin : This building was similar to the building
escr etc Below L"Point 2g. The first floor had two classrooms,
one small room for storage of maps and photographs which were
used for instruction, three storerooms used for storing students'
instructional equipment, and one large supply room used for
blankets, sheets, and uniforms. The second floor had four large
classrooms, accommodating 30 people in each room, and two rooms
that were utilized by instructors for grading tests, etc.

Each platoon utilized one same classroom for all subjects.
27. Water Well: Water was pumped from this well by pumps powered by
e..e r c motors which were located in the mess hall Point 2, .
The top of the well was covered with a cement covering. The
pipes were laid underground.
28. Mess Hallo Single story, gray blue, stuccoed brick, gray Eternit
i p ro6f?y approximately 100 x 25 x 1.1 m. This mess hall had two
dining halls that accommodated two companies of cadets (120 each)
and one large kitchen. The basement contained rooms for food
storage and a hot and cold central shower room. The water tank
was located in the attic and supplied the casern with water for
ewe w?re wo pumps in the basement powered by 25X1
electric motors of approximately five horsepower which drew
water from the well point 277. When the well was pumped dry,

the, water supply was shut ofd for the casein for five to six hours,
except for kitchen utilization. This situation exsc urred almost
daily.
29. Hospital; Single story, gray blue, stuccoed brick gray Etex it
hip ro, approximately 100 x 20 x 7 M. This hospital had two
surgery rooms, two rooms for medical records and administrative
functions, a dispensary, a dish washing room, a latrine, a wash-
room with bath facilities, a sun treatment room, and sleeping
quarters for enlisted male nurses. There were five wards, four
of which accommodated 10 patients and the other accommodated 15
patients. Two rooms were utilized as quarantine wards accommodat-
ing 10 patients each. Food was brought in from the mess hall.
30. Building: Single story, gray blue, stuccoed brick, gray Eternit
h1 roof, approximately- 50 x 20 x 7 or 8 in. This building had
windows and doors with vertical iron bars approximately 25 "Im.
in diameter. This building contained the offices for the

physical training officer and ordnance and ammunition officer
and a supply. room used for storing pistols, rifles, semi-
autpmatic, light and heavy machine guns, approximately 100 rifles,
10 - 15 light machine guns, 5 heavy machine guns, unknown number
of pistols, room for ordnance repair'shop, locksmith repair shop,
carpenter shop, tailor shop, shoe repair shop, and the office for
the casern utilities officer?
31. Bachelor - Offiders ! uarters: Single story, gray blue, stuccoed
brl a k,; grayern roof, approximately 20 x 10 x 6 m. This
building consisted of four large rooms; two officers were
billeted in each room.
32. Bachelor Officers' udrter.s: single story, gray blue, stuccoed

building consisted of four large rooms; two officers were billeted
in each room.
33. Stables: Single story, gray blue, stuccoed brick gray Eternit
hit-W-ofsapproximately 10 x 5 x 6 m. Used for hay storage and
other necessary fodder for feeding and bedding of two horses
kept in this building.

sty. The hogs were fed left-over scraps from the kitchen. When
the hogs were fat enough for butchering, they were slaughtered
and used as meat for the casern.
35. Water Well: land-operated, utilized for drinking and washin

Roads: Traffic was allowed throughout the casern on areas that had
