In April 1952, the Bulgarian authorities quickly suppressed peasant rebellion
in the villages of Sekirovo, Popovitsa, Rogozehe, Zlatosel, Brezovo, General
Nikolaevo, Otets Paisiy, and other localities, all in the Plovdiv Okrug. The
peasants had refused to work in the agricultural cooperatives and fiery were
arrested and imprisoned.
A large number of partisans known as the Gorieni (forest-men) are putting kip
resistance to the Bulgarian regime. The mayor of the village Slatosel was kil
when, disguised as a gypsy, he attempted tc enter the ranks of the Goriani in
order to denounce then? The Gori,ani receive little assistance from the poroul
because the people have little to give,
