In 19501, the 2 Artillery Battalion was located in Nova Zagora. The battalion was not mechanized. 2. Since 1951, an unidentified artillery regiment has been stationed in Nova Zagora increase in the number of soldiers seen in the city. In early 1953 Major RUSINOVsaid he was Political Officer of this reg en The barracks of this unit are located in a 10-12 acre area east of the intersection of the Nova Zagora-Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora-Tv~rditsa (N 42-429 E 25-54) roads in the northern part of the city.2 The barracks area is surrounded by a wire fence. No guns were observed in the garrison yard. The artillery regiment drills at the garrison. Firing practice by the unit is held 2-3 kilometers north of Sokol (N 42-24, E 26-09) on the northern slopes of the Sveti Iliya hills. The targets are sheds and buildings made of carton. In early 19539 observed the following weaponss a. One gun, length of barrel 1-1.5 meters, estimated calibre 80-100 mm., mounted on two iron wheels; and b. In 19519 the 8 PtTundzhaneka't Infantry Division was located in Stara Zagora. 6. As of late January 19539 the 8 Artillery Regiment was located in Stara Zagora and was quartered in a 25-35 acre area on the Chirpan (N 42-11, E 25-18 highway, on the western outskirts of Stara Zagora. 7. An unidentified infantry regiment is housed in the barracks on the northern outskirts of Stara Zagora. armored and Border Guard units are stationed in 9. Stara Zagora because he has seen privates from these branches in the city. As of March 1953, the 29 Infantry Regiment, Podelenie 65310, was located in Yambol. At the end of 19529 an order was issued that officers' dress uniforms were to be changed, and in early 1953 distribution of these began. The uniforms consist of blue trousers, a jacket and a cap. Branch insignia is to be on the collars and sleeves. a battalion commander currently has 28 subordinate 13. In early 1952, reservists of the 19189 1919 and-1920 classes were recalled for 30-45 days to the artillery regiment in Nova Zagora for familiarization with Soviet weapons. Non?Communiste as well as Communists were.recalled. no distinction was made between the two.
