1. Prior to the spring of 1953, the Czech troop train.in gr^unds near , i ao a/

The area southeast of Brad i3ezdcz including Va:&,acka and Vxrchbela was vacated by
the civilian population and was integrated into the training grounds ire 19'52.
Troops practicing at the training camp included infantry. units, tarn . units, AT
units and engineer units which were quartered in the buildings of tLe' evacuated
towns. Prior to. the spring of 1953, no barracks installations 25X1
under construction. No artillery units were observed. Troops fron the training
camp regularly visiting the neighboring villages on Sundays included soldiers
wearing tank insignia and crowed-hatchet insignia. From the late s nrner of
1952 up to Z;ay 1953, regular engineer units stationed at the towns of '1az~xcka
and Vrchbela were observed in connection with truck convoys of ups to 25 vehicles.
Prior to May 1953, the Waldste i.a Castle on the western perimeter of the town of
Doksy and north of the Dube. (0 :al/F 33) road quartered not lass than 300 tank
troops wearing red-bordered black epaulets with tank insignia who practiced &&t the
troop training grounds. Two or three tanks of an unidentified type were once
observed in Doksy. No military billets other than the WaltJstein Castle were
obs :=rued prior to the spring of 1953. In early 1953, a motorized unit was quartered
in a barracks installation of one brick bui__ding on the northeas, rrx perimeter of
Minion between the Jablonne Nemecke (0 51/F 96) road and Ploucnice river. A miiit...ry
office which issued pe..sses for the trainin ; grounds Gros . on the northern 11ex i.:e per
of the city and the east side of the Jablonne 111emecke road. Another n.:1.itary
office was in a former government bui ding on the east side of the i,.mon rrdarke
square. No troops were stationed at Bela p.. Bezd prior to t ay 1953.1

The former community house in Iior. Jindri:. ov iuartc,red about (0 nen Mho
patrolled the border. About one co.:,pany w.;> located on the :south side of
the Filipov road in St. Jirikov. The . form _ i? convent near the church in
Filipov quartered about 250 men,. who, all :: ;edgy belonged to a trainw.r;_, unit.
