In 1957, the teaching staff of the Faculty of Industrial (organic) Chemistry of the Military Division, Budapest School of Engineering, consisted of a dean, one professor, his assistant, and one lecturer. This staff also engaged in research on nitro-cellulose on behalf of the munitions industry, and on gas decontamination which was started in 1956. 2. Of the twenty students who registered for the faculty in 1953-195+ and graduated in 1956, only four remained in the regular army while the others found employment as engineers at industrriOl enterprises. No students were admitted to the faculty in 1955-1956 and courses held at present are for the class of 195+ which will graduate this year. It is not yet clear whether the faculty will be closed down and its curriculum taken over by another division of the school; in this case arrangements would be made for ten or fifteen students in their third or fourth year to specialize in munitions and chemical warfare, thus dispensing with the necessity of maintaining a separate teaching staff in these fields. Attached is a copy of a twelve-page report in Hungarian, published by the faculty in the summer of 1956 as part of a general survey of its activities since its foundation in 1950-1951. Subjects dealt with in this report are as follows: a. General development of the faculty since 1950-1951 when it was separated from the Institute of Military Engineering; names of the first staff members and their successors; development of educational activities, with special emphasis on the coordination of professional training and political indoctrination. human relations, and progress of political indoctrination. b.
