1. The following are the principal East German Volksarmee installations
devoted to research and development:
a. VEB Reparaturenwerk Neubrandenburg is the principal installation
for research and development in the field of tanks and their
armament. The commander at this installation is a full colonel
(nu). His superior is Major General Arno von IENSKI; chief of
all Volksarmee armored forces.
b. Entwicklungs ur(. KonstruktiL:nsbuero Pirna/Sonnenstein.
the Firna/Sonnenstein complex is the main installa-
tion in East Germany for jet aircraft research and development
projects.
c. The Erprobungsstelle fuer Dusenflugzeuge is located in the immediate
vicinity of Drewitz, Kreis Cottbus (see map A) and is the testing
and modification installation for the Last German airforce. It
has been in operation since 1954 and the entire area, buildings,
hangars and airfield are closed to the public. The single road
leading from Drewitz to the installation has been resurfaced with
concrete and is closed to all but official vehicles. A railroad

of this installation r'General KUNATH (fnu), whose official
title is "Chef der; Arnie Bewaffnung u. Munitionen."
e. The Zentrales Brennstaffsla er-'u Pruefamt in Hohensaater, on the
Oder River in Kreis Angermt ertde, is responsible for field testing
all types of explosives including those developed at the Zentrales
Munitionslager at Wolfsruh.
f. The Artillerie Versuchsschiessplatz, located in Kreis Weisswasser
on the west bank of the Neisse River, is now engaged in test-firing
all types of artillery for the Volksarmee.

a. The testing and modification center of the East German airforce.
b. The central munitions dump and explosives testing installation.
