(TSR) A new optical tracking building, designated the Opt B, has been identified at tracking facilities serving the Kapustin Yar Missile/Space Test Center in the USSR. The Opt B building was identified within the near range tracking facilities designated as the I group and within the midrange Terekty tracking facilities. 2. (TSR) The Opt B consists of a two-story building with it raised T-shaped platform on the roof (Figure 1). A cylindrical building, in diameter and high, is attached to the square building. The optical device is mounted in the middle of an meter-diameter platform on top of the cylindrical building. The optical device is protected by an octagonal shelter and by a dome similar to that on an Opt A optical tracking building (Figure 2). 3. (TSR) The Opt B was first identified under construction at the Terekty Tracking Facility Since that time, at least 25 Opt B buildings have been observed within the Kaputsin Yar range. 4. (TSR) The Opt B is an improvement over the older Opt A because the device is mounted higher off the ground and has an assessed line-of-sight of 12.9 kilometers, almost twice that of the Opt A device. Although an improved optical device is probably used with the Opt B. technical improvements cannot be discerned on imagery.
