(SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: CHINA'S NEW SELF-PROPELLED (SP) HOWITZER IS ENTERING THE TEST PHASE OF ITS DEVELOPMENT. 2. (SWN) REMARKS: TWO NEW SP HOWITZERS ARE AT BAICHENG MUNITIONS TEST COMPLEX FOR THE FIRST TIME. THESE NEW SP HOWITZERS WERE FIRST IDENTIFIED AT HARBIN TANK PRODUCTION AND 25X1 REBUILD PLANT 674 AND ARE SIMILAR TO THE SOVIET 25X1 152MM SP HOWITZER M-1973. BOTH HOWITZERS ARE AT A WEAPONS TEST POSITION AND ARE UNDERGOING WEAPONS TESTING. ONE.OF THE HOWITZERS IS POINTED DOWN RANGE WITH ITS GUN TUBE ELEVATED. (SUN) BAICHENG IS IN NORT;IEASTERN CHINA APPROXIMATELY 165 MI WEST OF HARBIN.
