LThis afternoon I met with DC/AS
SSA/DDA; Agency security representative to
DOS; and NE/DDO security officer, to discuss security
and other concerns raised bY in his recommendation that
we consider relocating the current Gulf Bureau. All three gentlemen
know Manama well and have been involved to some degree in previous
site surveys, security inspections, and discussions about the new
embassy in Manama. They all agree with Phil that we should relocate
On a related issue, recommends that FBIS keep abreast of
the new embassy building program so we can get our requirements
recorded early on in the planning stage. He specifically mentioned
the new embassies planned for Panama, Tel Aviv, Vienna, and Abidjan.
He represents DO interests in general, but would like to meet with
C/E8PS to discuss some of our long-range plans. He feels we should
at least use the option of reserving space in new chanceries whether
we decide to occupy the space later on or not.
