Led a 3trike Marotto Ftientes, after being arrested by agents of the Guayas Interpol, had been sent to the Litoral Penitentiary, but because oF disciplinary problems which he caused, including leading a strike me~nt to bring about the change of the present warden of the penitentiary, he was sent to the Garcia Moreno prison, from which his transfer was ordered by higher authority to the public 3ai1 of Bahia de Caraquez, In Guayaquil The drug trafficker and two prison guards arrived in Guayaquil from Quito on 17 June, and on arrival in Guayaquil Marotto ~sked the guards to allow him to say goodbye to his wife. Accordingly they went to his home at Maldonado and 17th Streets, ~rhere he delivered a television set,a n,attress, a tape recorded and other items, at the same time making a dramatic scene, embracing hi s wife and saying goodbye, saying that he was being moved to Bahia. Shots were exchanged. The arrest took place on Saturday, 7 Ju].y. It was reported that when the criminals were surprised, they threw away the . envelopes of "base" and proceeded toward Ayacucho and Juan Pio Montufar Streets, where the car they were in overturned, thua allowing their arrest.
