ABSTRACT: A highly effective gold- saving table of a new type has been
designed. Metal is identified by changes in the parameters of a
variable electromagnetic field through which sand containing
na'.;vc metal is passed. When a nugget passes, a pick-tip actuates
a radio circuit which in turn operates a relay to start a. rnechanism
that automatically cuts off the portion of sand containing the
nugget. A riumber of gold-saving tables now in use at placers is
described.

TITLEi Solidification and Crystallization of Metals
PERIODICALt ~ sb. Zatverdevaniye motallov. Moscow, Mashgiz, 1958, pp 257-274
ABSTRACTt Some phenomena of real crystallization not fitting into the frame-
work of Tamman's theory are considered. D.K. Chernov's viewpoint
is confirmed that the broken-off dendrites can become crystalli-
zation centers during mixing. The formation of spontaneous crys-
tallization centers has a higher energy threshold than the forma-
tion of dendrite branches. The following crystallization mecha-
nism is considered: at the disorderly motion of the liquid me-
tal, the fluctuation of the temperature and heat fields, and also
under the effeat of liquation, particles of the dendrite skele-
tons are washed out and broken off. In the absence of overheat-
ing these particles are not completely dissolved and crystal nu-
clei are formed.

Title: The Production of Large Blocks from Vibrated Mixtures
Original
Periodical: Stroit. materialy, izdeliya, i koDstruktaii., 1956, No 4, 26-28
Abstract: The production of large blocks from vibrated (Tr. Note: blended)
silicate mixtures, consisting of sand, lime, and finely ground ad-
ditives, has been investigated. The particle size distribution of
the sand was 30% 1.2-0.6 mm and 70% -0.6 mm. The optimum activated
lime content was 5-6% and the moisture 9-11%. Silica brick dast,
granulated slag, or flue dust from steam heat !-.lectric power stations
can be used as finely ground additives (in amounts not exceeding 20%).
Vibration was carried out by means of electromechanical vibrators with
a frequency of 3,000 cycles per minute and an amplitude'of one mm .

ABSTRACT: Potential and real noise immunities are theoretically determined
for a number of diversity -reception communication systems. Gaussian noise,
Rayleigh distribution of signal amplitudes in the diversity branches, and no
correlation between these signals: are assumed. General formulas are developed,,

Moscow, Elektrosvyazl, No 6, 66, pp 1-9.
ABSTRACT: A general Trcthod is presented for evaluation of the relative inter-
ference stability of various types of Ucying in telegraphy, based on the fact
that the dcmodulators used in many communications systems are of identical
strucLure or, at least, can be reduced to identical form. It is determined
that vith any sort of additive noise, phase telegraphy requires the least power
for ide;-.tical interference stability. Quantitative analysis for the various
types of modulation (in binary form) is performed for various communications
channels with additive and multipli~ative noise. Orig. art. has;-20 fomula's''-

ABSTRACT; 71-a authors briefly describe a linear accelerator which, operating at
:2797.2 Mc/sec, produces 1.5 microsoo, 80 mA pulses of 40 MeV electrons at repetition
Iratos of up to 50/ace. The electrons are produced In a two--cloctrcxlu gun with a tan-
talum cathode and are accelerated to 5 MoV in an 83 cm long injector containing an
.experimentally adjusted longitudin2l magnetic field for tocusinC. The principal so-
.~colerator is a 450 cm long constant aso velocity iris vavoautdo. Each of the two
isoctions is god through a 72 im.Ptvacuum wavoguida by a 20 megawatt kly8tron
~amplifier, each excited by tho same magnetron oscillator. The working vacuum of bet-
tor than 5 x 10-6 ma Hg is maintained by a battery of -titanium pumps. The boack ener-

Abstrac~. The authors consider the experimental verification of the conne.-
Lion between hardness and stress in the cuttin,~ of mi-Aals and
some consequences of this relationship, taking, into account the
cutting force from the hardness of the chips. They remark that
measurement of hardness by impression is acquirin,,,, wide-spread use
and has permitted the development of methods of sufficiently ac-
curate determination of such mechanical characteristics of metals
as flow limit', lilziJ.t strength, true resistance to rupture, coef-
ficient of toughening, and even the constructIon of schematized
diagrams of tension (N. N. Davidenko, ibid., 6, 7-8, 19143; M. P.
Markovets, ibid., 19.1 3, 1949). They propose that the measurement
of hardness of a preliniinarily deformed body can definitely deter-
mine the stress of preliminary plaitic deformation and that a fuilc-
tional dependence of nonnal stre5o sig-ra and Leriential otress tau
upon hardness 11 mu~;t be generIal for a1-1. and for variou:3 Iinlss
of deformations. Ten ref.
