The following recently constructed security installations were observed on the Czech side of the Austro-Czech border in the area between (buuend (Elk 59' - 11 48 47') and Scbaditz (E 15 32' - N 48 541): 1. An observation tower, about 25 asters high, has been erected on Czech territory between Bench Mark 478 (Scbwarzes-Kreuz) and beach Mark 488 (Schuler-Stein). The tower is about 300 meters north of Bench Matt 478, about 400 meters northwest of Bench Bark 488, and-1450 asters north of Austrian Bench mark 522 (Litschauer- 8errschaftsweld). Two Czech guards occupied the observation tower on 12 Fky 1954. 2. An observation tower about 35 meters high has been built on a wooded hill north- west of Boebaisch Sernschlsg, district Neubistritz, (Nova Bystrice). The tower is about 9e5 meters northeast of the chapel in the village of Boehaiach Bernsebiag and about 1000 asters southwest of the Czech Bench Mark 630 (Burgatall). 25X1 3. A survey tower about 30 meters high has been built at Czech Bench Mark 565 at 3eust'..ft, district Neubistritz, Built in the tower, at a height of about 20 meters, is a smal1 wooden observation but. 4. on 24 May 1954, a 16-man Czech engineer group began work on a floating barbed wire entanglement over the Stankau pond between Czech Bench Mark 511 (Bich_ Berg) and Bench Mark 591 (Chluasntswald.) On the same day smother group of Czech engineers, coming from Bench Mark 511, set up a barbed wire entanglesent extending to the north bank of the Sts.kau pond. The barbed wire entanglement was laid down from Bench Mark 511 through a cultivated area, and up to the north bank of the Stankau pond. The barbed wire entanglement on the north bank of the Stavkau pond, about 850 asters south of Czech Bench Mark 511, has been joined to a floating barbed wire entanglement to the south bank, about 1150 meters northwest of Austrian Bench Mark 472 (Huetten-Forst). 5. The floating barbed wire entang,eaents i iilize several ra#Lb, to rents on four metal floats. The barbed wire is attached to the rafts ''ay posts. Insulators are attached between the posts and the rafts, rather than between the wire and the posts. Oa i6 June 1954, Czech soldiers erected an earth bukkcer in the middle of a barbed wire entanglement located on the Czech aide of the border betwom Sclnditz and Wilhelmsbof, about 1500 meters west of Beach !lark 504. The bunker, made of wooden posts and pu, ,red with earth, is approximately 2 meters sgtnre. Approximately one half meter of the beater is visible above to ground. The look-out slitQi face Mastic.
