1. A Conduit (41b1eitung) for the Pleisse River: The section of the Pleisse
River, from grid coordinates 1605-88577 to 1505 9350 was 50X1-HUM
transformed into a conduit because the annoying odor caused by the phenol
in the river was permeating the adjacent areas of the city.
2. A :Diversion Dam 1Streichwehr) on the Pleisse River: The beginning of the
conduit for the Pleisse River has been separated from the branch dt.the
Pleisse by a diversion dam. This dam is located at grid coordinates 1605
8855 The water of the Pleisse arm flows in a general 50X1-HUM
northerly direction outside the city.
50X1-HUM
3. Diversion Dams on the North End of the Elster Basin: The Elster Basin,
the middle point of which is located at grid coordinates 151 918
is closed off by two diversion dams at its north end. The first dam is
.located at 145C 9300 and drains the Elster Basin into the Luppe River.
The second dam is located at 1480 9275 and diverts the flow of the Elster
'Basin into a new canal and thence into the Weiss. Elster River. The new
canal is located between coordinates 1485 9237 and 1483 9308. The purpose
of these dams is to maintain the water level of the Elster -Basin,, which
lies west-south-west of the sport center, The basin is supposed to be
used for water sports.
4. The Luppe Channel: The dikes on both sides of the channel of the Luppe
River have been built higher so that larger amounts of water can be stored.
Amounts of water will be larger in the future, because the straightening
of the river's course in the area south of Leipzig will result in more
water being led to the Luppe channel, The Luppetranclvdouth ofthe main
channel has been closed off. This closed off portion is located at coordinatee

The end of the channel of the Luppe River has been lengthened in a south-south-
vest direction forming a large bow. The coordinatesthat bound this lengthening
are 0644 9550 and 0445 9640 The reason for this lengthening was
to guarantee larger meter capacity in this channel so that floods in the city of
Leipzig could be avoided.. The Luppe River has been joined with the Weisse
Slater at the end of the Lune River's main channel. This confluence is located
at coordinates 0440 9638.
6. A Dm! on the Luppe River: Anewdem has been built between a Luppe River branch ..and.
the main Channel of the Luppe River. This dam is located at coordinatils 125
9437
7. A.New Bed for the Weiss. Easter River: The Masse Elster River has been given
;mow bed that is still in the process of being built. The river Is being
diverted to make new lignite fields available, where accessibility would other-
wise be hindered by floods of the Weisse Elster. This happened in the past when
the Weisse Elster meandered through its old river basin. In order to keep
lignite wining areas free of water, it is necessary to drain the river and ground
water out of the lignite mining area. The new river bed begins at coordinates
0985 9613 and ends at 0430 9637 After the bed has been completed,
the Weisse Easter River will be led along the old river bed under the Autobahn
bridge located at coordinates 0406 9628, and will continue its course in a
westerly direction to the new river bed which will be located directly west of
the Autobahn at 040 963 The new river bed follows the winding
course of the Weisse Elster River in a general westerly direction until it
reaches a confluence with the old river bed, which is located at coordinates
928997. The following is a sketch of the profile of the new Elster bed:

8. The Saale-Elster Canal: The Saale-Easter canal, which reached as
far as coordinates 017 923, at the end of WW II, is being
extended in a general southwest direction until it meets with the Saale
at coordinates 9395 9043.
9. The lig#teDeutzsch Lock: This lock lies directly north of the village
of Masteneutzsch and is located at coordinates 961 908
This lock was in the process of being built before WW II and is not
yet finished. It has two lock basins 115 meters long and about 10
meters wide. The lock is being built as a navigational lock (Fahrschleuse)
and will be filled from each of the basins of the lock chambers.
