In the past the Central Intelligence Agency occasionally has identified
records as being of potential interest to Presidential Libraries. P~:oreover,
on two occasions we transferred records to the National Archives and Records
Service specifically for a Presidential Library--once for the Kennedy Library
in 1964, and once for the Johnson Library in 1969. Tlie Kennedy Library
transfer was covered by a CIA transmittal to MARS dated 9 :arch 1964. This
transmittal indicated in Item 14 on its list of attachments that certain
additional records would become available later.
For your information, we discontinued some time ago the practice of
identifying records specifically for Presidential Libraries. Accordingly, in
conformance with current .approved procedures, the additional records referred
to above ~~ri11 be made available through the normal process of transferring
our permanent records to the National Archives.
