The attached OSS report on Albania dated 25 April 1944 is of interest to the GAO team searching records in connection with their continuing investigation of Nazi war criminals. It was sent to us by NARS for review and delivery to GAO (see attached NARS memo dated 9 September 1983). 2. We have reviewed the report and have found no classified information in it. 'T'here are several references to British contacts with partisans during WW II but they are general in nature and a great deal has already been ibliah on this subiect Since it is an OSS document however, we are forwarding it to you for coordination and to make it available to GAO. 3. Please note that NARS would like to be notified if we declassify the report. If you would like us to notify NARS, you can let us know; a telephone call would be sufficient. It brings together scattered material from v'lrious sources, chief among them being British and American intelligence reports and Albanian Press and Radio articles and comments. In addition to a summary of facts, however, an attempt has been made to probe the motives of the different sections of opinion within the coun- try, in order that the ma. d.raun use, may be IX-010 Of the factors of resistance to German occupation, whether at present active or passive. It has not been possible in the text to quote authorities consulted, since in many cases two or three quite independent sources have. been collated to establish a single statement. But the bulk of the material comes from: CSDIC interr- ogation reports; Force 266 Albanian sumrrinxies; material supplied by 50I(A), Bari.; a memorandum prepared by the united States OSS/SBS and a series of Albanian newspapers and propaganda leaflets supplied by the same office; the PWE Balkan radio mnitoringr, report and other information collected by Fn. It is intended to follow this report as soon as possible by an ALBANIAN MHO'S WHO, containing information about some huMreds of figures in Albanian public life, This is intended as back- ground material for those involved in Albanian affairs and is also being prepared with an eye to greater ease of administration of the country if that should be called for.
