ALL,ME1L PASSENGER CARS -- Moscow, Gudok, 22 Nov 51
Recently, three all-metal passenger care for the Moscow-_Aj.,Ata express
Passenger trains arrived in A1ma,Ata. By the end of 1951, the Turkestan-
Siberia Railroad System will have 80 of these cars. The new cars will make it
possible to considerably increase the accommodation of passengers.
By 1 January 1952, all express passenger trains on the Moscow--Alms-Ata
run will be made up of all-metal cars.
NEW ELECTRIC TRAIN -- Riga, Sovetskaya Latviya, 23 Nov 51
The Riga Railroad-Car-Building Plant has produced a new three-unit electric
train. The car walls are made up of corrugated metal, which decreases the
weight of the train.
NEW ELECjpIFIIn SECTION -- Moskovskaya Pravda, 13 Dec 51
The newly electrified Katuar-Aprelevka section of the Moscow-Kiev Railroad
System is to be opened to traffic in the near future. This will provide elec-
trified service from Moscow to Aprelevka.

The first electric train traveled over the Moscow_Aprelevka electrified
section today.

station to handle this gas, obtained during the refining ng of petroleum.
According to preliminary calculations, the savings effected by one truck
during the course of a year would amount to 2,500 rubles. The installation of
two 20-liter bottles per truck will permit 300-400 kilometer ruus.
Truck transportation between Baku and Baladzhary rail centers is to be the
first to use this gas. Afterrard, all of the motor transportation of the Azer-
baydzhan Railroad System will be converted to using this cheap gasoline sub-
stitute, for which no structural changes are required.
AKMOLINSK-PAVLODAR CONSTRUCTION COLUMNS NEAR JUNCTION -- Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan-
Okays Pravda, 9 Dec 51
The two mechanized construction columns, from Akmclinak and Pavlodar, re-
spectively, a----e now less than 12 kil.cmetera apart. To the west of Ekibastuz,
more -.han 50 kilometers of track have teen laid and the track layers are ap-
proaching the Shiderty River.
BRYANSK TRANSFORMER STATION UNDER REMOTE CONTROL -- Moscow, Gudok, 30 Oct 51
Four months ago the transformer substation at Bryanek was converted to re-
mote-control operation. The substation is controlled from the dispatcher point
of the central distributing substation.
The conversion work was done by workers of the Moscow Electromechanical
Institute of Transportation Engineers together with engineers from the Central
Department of Power Engineering.
In the rear future the rest of the transformer stations of the Moscow-Kiev
Railroad System are to be converted to remote control. This will save 140,000
rubles annually.
NARROW-GAUGE RR COMPLETE YEAR PLAN --. Stalinabad, Komnunist Tadzhikistan,

On 12 December 1951 the narrow-gauge railroads cf the Tadzhik SSR com-
pleted the year plan for hauling in ton-kilometers and pledge` to haul an addi-
tional 100,000 tons of freight above the plan by the end of 19=1.

The Leningrad Railroad System has been criticized for not providing better
accommodations for passengers after it was reported that the .=rs of train No
211 on the Leningrad-Siverskaya run are illuminated by candle; as soon as : e
train leaves the platform in Leningrad-Varshavskiy station.

NEW PAINT '?RYER -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 25 Dec 51
The Kalinin Railroad-Car-Building Plant has produced a new dryer for all-
iet a Passenger cars after painting. The apparatus dries the lacquer in 4 hours
the 40 hours required by the devices now in use.
NEW TIE IMPREGNATING SOLUTION -- Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya, 26 Dec 51
The Tallin Polytechnical Institute together with the Track Service of the
Estonian Railroad System have developed a new tie impregnating solution, ot_
tained from the processing of local oil shale. The new preparation will be of
use not only to the railroads but also to the construction industry.
MOINTy-CHU LINE IN TEMPORARY OPERATION -- Alma-Ate, Kazakhstanakaya Pravda,
18 Dec 51
On 15 December 1951 the entire Mointy-Chu line was opened for temporary
operation and the first passenger train made its way over the route. Now the
administration for construction is making up dense schedules for coal and other
freight trains.
TABBKENT SYSTEM COMPLETES CARLOADING PLAN -- Tashkent, Pravda Vostoka, 18 Dec 51
On 15 December 1951, the Tashkent Railroad System completed its 1951 car.
loading plan. The number of freight cars of the system increased considerably
during this year.
USSR RAILROADS COMPLETE YEAR PLANS -- Pravda, 1 Jan 52
B. Beehchev, Minister of Transpcrtation USSR, announced the completion of
the 1951 carloading plan by the railroads. They exceeded the planned norms for
accelerating freight car turnaround time, for increasing labor productivity, for
lowering fuel consumption, and for reducing the cost of hauling.
