The Chine Academy of Science announces exsminatie~t::s f:~r research assistants
to develop personnel for scientific research. Ev>?i~y spFiicant will Lmdergo an
examiaaticn of his general political knowledge and hie knowledge of any one of
the following languages: English, French, Garman; r~r kussian -- and in addition,
the special examinations indicated be-lows
i. In the Tau-chin-,shah Aatroae~ical Gbsiw~vat~u-y~~ Nariring (three positions):
(a) one dealing with terrestrial physics, (bj :r~.Y with 3.atrua'xnical instruments,
and (c) sae with the calculation of positions aL,i tr~bits ,:f celestial bodies. For
(a) and (b), examination9 in physics and mathematics; Par (c), examinations in
astronomy, dyYteai#cs, and. mathematics.
2. In the Institute of Geophysics (20 positions); (s) 10 dealing with
practical terrestrial physics, (b 4 dealing with terrestrial magnetism, (c)
4 dealing with seismology, and (d; 2 dealing with meteorology. All will take
examinations in general physics, calculus, and differential equations. In
addition, for (a) (b), and (c), there will be examiaationa in dynaaica and
magnetism; for (d;, a teat in metearology, includirr~ weathez? and dynamic metea~o-
logy, and climatology.
3. In thQ Institute of Applied Physics (ten positions): (a seven dealing
with physics, (b) two dealing with electrical iaetrumeata, and (c one dealing
with chemistry. .For (a) and (b), examinations in general physics, dynamics,
magnetism, light, heat' and. expec'imeata2 physics; Par (c), examinations in
'general physics,~chemietry (p~lysical and anlytical), at.d experimental physics.
4. In the Institute of Botanical Taxonomy (tkree positions): examinations
in general botany and botanical classification. '
5A In the Institute of Marine Biology ~tw-o positions): one dealing with
primary forms of animal life, and oat with classification of aquatic vegetation.
