KAARKOV PLANT COMPLETED PLAN -- pravde Ukra.iny, No 85, 9 Apr 50
The ISrarkov Electrical Machinery Plant completed the Five-Year Plan in 3
years and 9 months in both volume and range of production. Output in 1949 con-
siderably exceeded the prewar level; it increased 5.2 percent per square slater
of p~L,duction area and 18.9 percent per unit of equipment.
Machines bearing the RhEMZ?label are familiar in the petroleum, machine-
tool-building, locomotive, paper, polygraphic, and agricultural-machine-build-
ing industries. The plant produces electric motors, high- and low-power gene-
rators, explosion- and waterproof motors using direct and alternating current,
cage and phase-wound rotors, and dozens of types of starters, switches, regula-
tors relays, control stations, and command apparatus (komando-apparat). The
greater part of the equipment produced by the plant is automatic.
Among other products is the automatic apparatus used in light and power in-
stallations of the tall Moscow buildings for the protection of electrical equip-
ment and cables that are overloaded or short-circuited. ,
Mechanization of transport and machining operations is the order of the day.
The number of power trucks within the plant bas grown. Special trailers are
coupled to trucks for removing waste. Eighteen traveling and fib cranes with
pneumatic telphera are'in operation. The supply of materials to the working sta-
tion is mechanized in the forming, reinforcement, and lacgsring shops. The stamp-
ing of arbors has been mechanized in the forming shop, and special machine tools
for placing mica in storage batteries have freed dozens of workers. Welding with
flux by Paton's method has given particularly notable results; about 36 percent of
,the welding in the plant is done in this manner. High-speed cutting is done on
177 machine tools; three fourths'of all tools produced by the plant, have hard-
alloy tips.

sECRET
While the plant exceeded the quarter plan in volume and commercial pro-
duction, it failed to meet the norm in the range of products. It does not
utilize its full potential to increasing labor productivity and technical prog-
ress. Nor does the plant exert itself sufficiently to save raw materials. The
management is taking steps to eliminate these shortcomings. -- I. Verbs, direc-
tor, and N. Boriseuko, chief engineer.
Izvestiya, No $1, 5 Apr 50
The Kharkov Electrical Machinery Plant has put a number of new items into
production. The production of regulating automatics is proceeding well. Explo-
sion-proof motors for coal mines are coming out in increasing quantities. A six-
motor unit for the 10-cubic-meter walking excavator has been built. Work is cur-
rently under way on a complex machine unit for use on the first ?_5-cubic-meter
excavator. A unique vertical electric motor for use in city water supply systems
has been shipped to Moscow.
PROMISES NEW PRODUCTS -- Kommunist, No 86; 11 Apr 50
The Yerevan Electric-Machine-Building Plant has made the following pledges,
to be fulfilled by 29 November 1950, the 30th anniversary of the Armenian SSR:
to tool up for series production of four new types of generators having capacities
up to 100 and over 100 kilowatts, two types of No 1 gauge transformers, new com-
Alex control panels fox generators, and portable transformer substations; to cut?
the production cost of commercial products 2 percent below plan without lowering
the quality of materials; to save 1,400,000 rubles through implementation of use-
ful suggestions.
ASSEMBLES POWERFUL NEW TRANSFORMER -- Pravda Ukrainy, No 85, 9 Apr 50
The Leningrad Elektroapparat Plant has begun to assemble a powerful new trans-
former for the Dnepr GES imeni V. I. Lenin. An experimental model of the trans-
former was designed and successfully tested at the plant.
SPEEDS BLOWING OF ELECTRIC BULBS -- Pravda Ukrainy, No 86, 11 Apr 50
The glass shop of the Lvov Electric Bulb Plant, which had long been a bottle-
neck, has improved the process of automatic blowing of bulbs and attained a record
index of production. Two machines produce up to 30,000 bulbs per shift. The plant
no longer has to order bulbs from Moscow, as ~t did heretofore, and will soon be
able to supply other plants with this product.
PLANT CHANGES NAME, GETS :lETr1 SHOP -- Vechernyaya Moskva, No 79, 3 A)?r 50
The Electrical Products Plant of the Pervomayskiy Rayon Industries Trust has
changed its name to the Daylight-Bulb Plant. It is s;.ill administered by the same
trust. Luminescent (luminestsentnye) bulbs made by the plant are used widely in
.industrial enterprises, mines, and public buildings. Plans Yor.construrtion of a
new glass-assembly shop have recently been approved. Machine tools for the new
shop are to be supplied by a plant of the Ministry of Communications, according to
a decision by the Council.of Ministers.
