THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 600 TO GRADUATE FROM SLASK TECHNICAL SCHOOLS IN 1949-50; OPEN NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOLS, OTHERS PLANNED SLASK TRAINS TECHNICIANS -- Dziennik Zachodni, 15 Jun 50 The Slask Technical Schools train large groups of skilled workers and tedhni- cians in the fields of mechanics, el ectrotechnology, and chemistry. The train- ing is being conducted on two levels. The first is the former gymnasium, now called grade I Lyceum, which accepts. students who have completed the seventh grade elementary school. After completion of training, the students receive the title of skilled workers, and become eligible for grade II Lyceum which trains technicians, chemists, electrotechnicians and telegraph and radio tech- nicians. They also prepare the students for studies in polytechnicums or uni- versitiAB.. The Slask Technical Schools employ 2?4 teachers in 72 classes. Of the 2.557 students, 600 will soon complete their training and will be a valuable factor in strengthening the Polish industry. In 1944-45 384 students graduated; 296 were graduated in 1945-46. In 1946-47, there were 312 graduates; in 1947-48, 388; in 1948-49, 559. 1949-50, the number of.gradua;ea will be 600, including 400 technicians and 200 skilled workers. However, not all 1949-50 graduates will go directly into industry. Eighty technicians and about 120 graduates of grade I Lyceum will take ul, further studies. During the Six.-Year School Plan 5,075 students will graduate. TO OPEN EVENING ENGINEERING SCHOOL -- Glos Wielkopolski, 11 Jun 50 The Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of the Evening Engineering School of the Main Technical Organization in Poznan. The school will open'in September 1950 with mechanical, electrical, and civil-engineering faculties. The mechanical-engineering faculty will have mechanical conatruc- tion and repair departments. The electrical engine,.?ing faculty will have de- partments for study of high- and low-voltage current. The civil-engineering faculty will have transportation, construction, and-water-improvement depart- ments. Each faculty will have 2-year preparatory courses for workers who are 'not grad- uates of a lyceum but wish to attend the engineering school. For workers w'th advanced skills, preparatory courses may be shortened to one year. SET UP NEW DEPARTMENTS AT POLYTECENICUM -- Express Wieczorny, 13 Jun 50 By an order of the Ministry of Education, a department of mining and mine construction will be established during the 1950-51 scholastic year at the Slask Polytechnicum in Gliwice. TO TRAIN SKILLED MECHANICS -- Zycie Warszawy, 12 Jun 50 One of the largest vocational schools in Poland is the training center at the Pafawag State Railroad Car Factory in Wroclaw. Twenty-two hundred future specialists for heavy industry are taking training there. During the 1950 - 1951 school year, this number will increase to 3,500. There are two types of schools at the center, the mechanical lyceum and the industrial school. The latter has an enrollment of 900 students. The 1951 plans provides for further expansion of the industrial school so as to accommo- date 1,180 students. The following courses are offered: fitting, lathe operation, electromech- anics, welding, mechanics, and lie casting. Plans have been made to organize new courses in boiler installation, varnishing, and galvanizing. Sixty percent of the 2,200 students at the Pafawag State Railroad Car Fac- tory training center come from peasrnt families, 35 percent from workers' fami- lies, and 5 percent belong to families of white-collar workers. At present, only seven girls are enrolled at the center. It is planned to enroll 300 girls during the next scholastic year. A night school in engineering was opened in Wroclaw for workers of the Archimedes State Railroad-Car Plant, the water-meter plant, and other industrial i'gineering, etc. i Funds for the Advanced Engineering School in Czestochowa have already been allocated and construction wiU start in July 1950. The Ministry of Education has recently allocated 15 million zlotys for the equipment of the textile chops and laboratories which will be ready by the beginning of the school year The Advanced Engineering School will be the best equipped school of technology in Poland. 21,500 NEW TECHNICIANS TAKING FINAL EX.41S -- Trybuna Ludu, 11 Jun 50 Approximately 21,500 graduates of Polish trade lyceums are taking final examinations, which will end on 24 June 1950. They will receive a technician's certificate and will join the ranks of specialists in 29 various branches of the nation's economy. COl.ESPONDENCE COURSES TRAIN 17,000 -- Zyc-.e Warozawy, 20 Jun 50 The number of manual and white-collar workers using the services of the State Technical Correspondence School in Warsaw amounts to 17,000. Under the Six-Year Plan, this number wiZ.., increase threefold. The school trains workers and technical personnel for the mechanical, elec- trical, and textile industries, and cadres of qualified personnel .,or state and socialized trade organizations. TECHNICAL LYCEUM TO ADMIT FEMALE STUDENTS -- Trybuna Ludu, 15 Jun 50 The grade II state lyceum of mechanics and aviation-mechanics on 88 Hozaj Street, Warsaw, will admit female students for the first time. The training lasts 3 years. BETON-STAL TRAINS EXPERTS -- Express Wieczorny, 9 May 50 .. Beton-Stal completed the winter program of vocational training in masonry, concrete pouring, glazing, painting, and installation. Among the 1,000 workers trained were a great many women and young people. All received certificates. The courses were given by Beton-Stal engineers and master mechanics. ORGANIZE COURSE'IN MINING -- Rzeczpospolita, 10 May 50 The Preliminary Training School of the Coal Industry in Pszczyna has or- ganized a 5-month course of study. Three days of each week will be spent in theoretical instruction and 3 days in on-the-job training in the mines. Stu- dents finishing the course with high grades will receive scholarships for fur- ther training up to and including the College of Mining. Besides tuition, they will receive free room and board and their clothes, school supplies, and medical care. On 9 May 1950, the first contingent of young men left Warsaw to attend. the courses.
