The works employ 22,000 men, of whom 6,000 work in the machine shops and 800 in the foundry. Work is done in two shifts, with the exception of the foundry and the rubber works, where three shifts are employed. The works produce 11,000 pairs of shoes and 5,000 tires daily, as well as triangular section rubber driv- ing belts, flat driving belts, rubber insulated flooring, and stockings. The machine shops produce machinery and machine tools for rubber working, shoemaking,. etc. These machines and machine tools are partly for the use of other departments of the Data complex, and partly for sale. Eighty percent of the goods produced are for export to the USSR, 10% for internal consumption and for export to satellite countries, and 10% for export to the West. 2. Raw rubber is obtained I in small quantities5OX1-H U M from the USSR. Reclaimed rubber is obtained from the Eastern Zone of Germany. axon and steel are supplied from the iron works at Ostrov and Trine(, and special steel from Kladno. Coal is obtained from the Data mines at Ratiborice and Dubnany. 3. Major recent developments at the works are as follows: a, The manufacture of electric motors is being transferred from Gottwaldov to Roznov pod Radhostem, as is a part of the stocking factory. The space vacated is to be used for extending the machine shops, b. A new machine shop has been built between I;alenovice and Kvitkovice and has already been connected by sidings with the railroad line. The building is 280 in. long by 80 m. wide and is ready to be put into operation? The Parik factory at Napajedla has been turned over to manufacturing gun carriages. d. Oil has been discovered at Hodonin and wells are being drilled. e. The Bata aircraft factory in Kunovice near Uherske 11radiste is manufacturing aircraft, type Buecker 181, fitted with Praga 4 engines. Production is one aircraft per week. The railroad station at Otrokovice is being moved, and the tracks of the railroad junction are being relaid because the present arrsngemet is inadequate for the traffic. g. The airfield at Otrokovice is being abandoned in order to make room for a new rubber factory, of which one building has already been construe z, h. The railroad line from Otrokovioe to Gottwaldov has been double tx??zc d and a second track is aleo being laid between Gottwaldov and Vizovi-r, It is intended to lay a second track from Vizovioe to 7alaska Pola.n si but because of the difficult terrain this track will not be complete(:-', c some time. Bata Batov Works The works employ 6,000 mac, working six deys a week in two shit'fmm 5 . The work consist of the following principal departments' a. The new tannery built in 1947 and now in full operation. The building is 200 m, long by 80 m. wide and has eight floors. Hides are import d eem.ce wors,. b, The old tannery athich consists of four buildinav and is also in a, weaving of copper mesh; 15,000 kg. of mash are produced per days d. Weaving fabrics for tires. e. Textile factory, producing cloth for all purposesa. f. Machine shops producing rubber-and 1eathe -snaking machinery and large cogwheels; employs 535 men in two shifts, g. Assembly shops on three floors: on the first floor are the machine ohopsg the second floor, assembly unit; and the third floor, maintenance and spy parts shops. h., Power station equipped with three turbo-generators using black coal dust as fuel and producing enough power for the whole works,, The power station is also connected with the West Moravian electricity grid. i. Harbor for river traffic which can be used by Danube vessels of 100 - 1'C, tons travelling from the Danube down the river brava and up the ' of the Oreveni to the works. ie k. The factory consists of three buildings of three floors each, and as production is to be increased, a fourth building is in process of construcction. U.S. OF ICI1IS MIX CEI 'AL I I ELLICENCE AGENCY The factory produces gas masks, filters for which are manufactured by the Batav chemical works, rubber anti-gas clothing, rubber parts for shook a sorbers for tanks, rubber parts for tank tracks and tractor tracks, rubber gaskets 1for automobiles, and various rubber parts for industrial and technical wet, Bata. Machine Tool Factory at Sezimavo Usti The Bats, Machine Tool Factory is located about half a kilometer from Sezl,,a (, Usti near the railroad line to Ceske Budejovice. The factory manuf acts :s lathes, radial boring machines and spinning machines, 10. Production is 8 lathes per day, 2 radial boring machines type R per day., 1 type R-4 per day, and 1 type R-8 two weeks. Products are exported to the MM, Poland, It m aria, Bulgar 9. 11. The factory employs 1,400 men working in two shifts, but the foundry works in three shifts. Equipment of the factory includes one electric blast f urw ce a one otpola oven and three Bessemer furnaces. AU equipment is in good c1ox1 ilition, Electric power is used. Trines and Kiadnos electric motors from the ME.Z Factory in Roznov pod Radhoste j 12. Materials cove from the following places: from and steel from Vitkovioe 50X1-HUM The principal shortages are in non-ferrous metals and ball bearings. Raw materials and finished goods are transported by rail, and the factor; has its owr! railroad sidings. 14.
