b. One squadron. of large submarine chasers;
c. One squadron of smo3.1 submarine chasers; and
d. One flotilla of torpedo boats.
The GEOROI DIMITROV, 4ianlaeement.1,600 tons, was constructed in 1947 and presented.
to Bu/garia by Pe,J USSR. The twin guns-in the bows, of the vessel have a kind of
reeler equipment on the revolving gun-turrets. Captain Dobrev is the commander of
the ship.
3. The equadron of large submarine chasers is commanded. by Captain Petr Korbadmhiev
and censiats of two 200-ton BO chasers. The vessels are equipped with three Diesel
motors ard are cepable of a speed of 24 knots. Armament consists of one gun in a
revolving gm-turret, two 37 mm. antiaircraft guns, two D.Sh.K. (Degtyarev-Shpagin)
machine guns, 12 large depth charges, 20 small depth charges; each is equipped with
a water sounding installation known. as Draken C.34 and with smoke screen equip-
ment.
6. Te squadron small submarine chasers consists of the following:
a. Six wooden MO chasers, displacement 60 tons, 21-man crew, powered by two
Packard motors, capable of a speed of 19 knots; armed with two semi-automatic
45 mm. truc3, two antiaircraft machine guns, eight large depth charges,
and 16 small depth charges; each vensel carries gmoke screen equipment and
Drakon C.34 and. Tamir 9 souriding equipment; these ships can also be used for
mine ewooeping and for coastal defense; and
b. Six weel,ie OD ehasers, displacement 40 tons, 21-man crew, powered by two
Paekard engines, napable of a speed of 24 knots; armed with one 37 mm.
airafr, gun., four D.Sh..K. antiaircraft machine guns, sight large depth
.egee, and 16 small depth charges; each is equipped with Drakon C.34 and
Taml'e? 9 sounding equipment, and each craft carries smoke screen equip-
ment.
7. The flotilla of torpedo boats is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Stefan Donchev
and consists of the followings
a. Six Soviet torpedo boats, displacement 40 tons, steel construction, 20-man
crew, powered by two gasoline engines, capable of a speed of 24 knots; armed
with one gentematic 37 mm. gun, four D.Sh.K. antialroraft machine guns, two
torpedo tubes from which the torpedo tubes themselves have actually been ra-
mmed according to a clause in the Peace Treaty; each vessel carries depth
charges and smoke screen equipment; these ships were received from the USSR
in 1950: but before the Bulgarians took over the craft, their crews had to
reeeive two years instrucUon at Ocbakov; and
b. A group of old-fashioned Bulgarian torpedo boats, in two sections as follows:
(1) LBRSSEN, consisting of three 60-ton torpedo boats constructed in Germany
in 1939, 22-man crew, powered by three Diesel B.M.W. (Bamrische Motoren
Werke) engines capable of a speed of 30 knots; each is armed with two
twin antiaircraft Rheinmetall guns, two machine guns, two 533 mm. caliber
torpedo tubes, six depth charges, and smoke screen apparatus; and
POWER, consisting of two 40-ton torpedo boats constructed in England in
1941, wooden eemtruction, 20-man crew, powered by three Rolls Royce
engines, capable of a speed of 40 knots, armed with two Hispano Sutra
antialreraft guns, 'two33 mm. torpedo tubes, six depth charges, and smoke

screen apparatus; in 19 4, there were four of these torpedo boats, but two
were taken over by the USSR for study.

Coastal Defense Section at Varna
8. The Coastal Defense Section at Varna consists of the following units:
a. A flotilla of mine layers;
b. A section of specialists;
c. Q.M.G. section;
d. Naval Arsenal; and
a. Depot and repair shop for torpedoes.
9. The flotilla of mine layers consists of the following:
a. One group of mine layers, consisting of two old converted German-tyre mine
layers of steel construction, displacement 200 tons, 20-man crew, powered
by three Diesel engines, capable of a speed of 10 knots, unarmed; and
b. One group of mine sweepers, consisting of eight Bulgarian 20-ton craft,
8-man crew, powered with a Diesel engine capable of a speed of eight knots,
armed with one machine gun.
10. The eection of specialists is comprised of the following:
a. Divers;
b. Radio section;
0. Electro-technical section;
d. Signal section; and
e. Searchlight section.
