INFORMATION ON FOREIGN ARTICLES MAKING UP THE RUSSIAN BOOK "THE CYCLOTRON"
The Russian language book Tsiklotron (The Cyclotron) represents a synthesis
of four non-Russian works: three English articles and a French book. It con-
tains no references to Soviet-made cyclotrons.
The translations into Russian were conducted under the editorship of P. A.
Cherenkov. The translators Yrom English were I. S. Abramson, N. N. Sobolev, and
E. L. Burshteyn~ the translator from French was N. I. Dobronravov. The foreword
states that the book is designed for scientific research workers~engineere, and
student physicists in advanced courses. Eight thousand copies at 10 rubles each
were issued.
The four works translated are as follows:
1. "The Cyclotron," an article by M. S. Livingston appearing in the Journal
of Applied Physics, 1944, on cyclotron techniques employed in American laboratories.
2. "The Focusing and.Maximum Energy of Iona iu the Cyclotron," an article
by M. E_. Rose in Ph.VSical Review, Vol LIT_I, 392, 1938 on the theory of the cyclo-
tron.
3. "The Ion Source for the Cyclotron," an article by M. S. Livingston in the
Review of Modern Pbgsics, Vol XVIII~No 3, 1946.
4. "Le Cyclotron~~' s book by M. E. Nehmias which was written in 1941-42 and
published in 1945 as part of the seriL:s Editions de la Revue d'Optiaue, theorique
et instrumeutale.
